tomburras 2,730
Tonight I had the pleasure of trying a new untuned .22 hw99 and they are bloody good as standard! they are a lot of gun for the money brand new and after a fettle amazing! Here's an old thread from my brother a couple of years ago.... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/325196-hw99s-my-new-tuning-toy-;/ Are there many hw99 users on here and what are your thaughts on this gun? 1 Quote Link to post
jonnie bravo 572
Yes excellent gun! Mine was good straight from the box too, but I have fettled her to smooth out the cocking and firing cycle and she is just a joy to use. I found the best pellet for mine is bisley LRG, jsb rs are good too, a little patchy with some other top pellets though. Great fun compared to the heavier springers 1 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Ye I have tuned a couple, I like them but find them hold sensitive, in my preferred .177 calibre it is a real struggle to get the power above about 10ftlbs which may suit some but I like my rifles around the 11.5 ftlbs mark, so its the .22 that really shines in this model, they really do need stripping out of the box, the last one I did was brand new, the horrible grease and turnings that came out of it, and embedded in the piston seal, was quite shocking, for a brand new rifle, but once done and a Vortek seal added, it was sweet to shoot and accurate, if a little pellet fussy. charlie caller 3,654
Just to add, at some point, I am going to try a CZ 634 Slavia, I have always heard brilliant things about these rifles, and out of the box the piston runs on synthetic bearings, and knowing how good CZ powder burners are, I have a 511 .22 semi auto, and had a 527 .22 hornet, I dont think it will disappoint. tomburras 2,730
The cz sounds interesting Charlie caller. I love the 99 because it's so light and pointable. I was tempted to try a diy tune on a .177 but was put off for the same reasons. I just wish I'd baught a hw99 sooner. Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
There alright I suppose. Quote Link to post
johonawhitness 110
Always wanted one in .22 and use the iron sight as it comes with the decent foresight names splipped me, for close up squirrel and Mr rat. Anyway the gailing issue put me off. I understand there is now a revised linkage but I believe it isn't a 100% fix for long term use? Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
What they have done is fitted a delrin rod under a bit of spring pressure into the cocking arm, it does work, but I have heard one or two still sound a bit rough on cocking, mine were fine, but then I did do a complete de-burr and polished everything that could be polished, Tom have a look at the CZ mate, about 200 Euros from over the sea, brand new, and I really like the look of them, reminds me of the superb FWB sport. jonnie bravo 572
Any idea on piston size/swept volume etc CC? Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
Hi Charlie iv had a look and they look nice, propper oldschool styling! Sounds an interesting design with the bearings too. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Any idea on piston size/swept volume etc CC? No to be honest, Welsh Willy used to sell them and he raved about them, they are full power, and meant to be incredibly accurate, which given the superb barrels CZ make is not surprising.
