I was speaking to a gun dog trainer the other week about gwp's, he was saying although with no great conviction their seems to be 2 types, one highly strung which are prone to fighting and another more laid back type, but would the laid back type be willing to tackle a fox? Or more to the point is the highly strung dog capable, one thing I've noticed is many dogs prone to fighting are big shit houses when it comes to anything that bites back.

I see what your saying but as a shooting falconry dog do they not wander round scenting and only stop on point when theirs something there, what id be after on the shooting part is something that will sit their whilst I'm in a hide an retrieve anything I manage to shoot, does a pointer have the patience to sit their like a lab would? And I'm not trying to start an argument I'm just after info. As far as crossing to a coursing dog, theirs not a chance in this world I'd consider anything with saluki blood and the way it's going everyone seems to want to throw a coursing dog over anything thinking it'll make a great all rounder, me personally I couldn't think of nothing worse.

No they don't go wandering around if trained properly, they are seriously versatile dogs in the right hands and head banging nutters in the wrong ones.

I couldn't be doing with dog fighters. I'm no expert in GWP's but off course a laid back type ( whatever that is ) could still be good at the foxes same as with any other type of dog.

I am very interested in this breed one day. I have talked to a few breeders and checked out a few litters. Do they lack pace at all?

There is a big GWP dog that gets exercised at a place I take my dogs, he picks rabbits up, and has caught roe, looks like he could run forever lol
