Chub Campaign

Recommended Posts

Decided I'm going to aim for a 5lb chub from my local river this year. Had a couple of sessions just roving with breadflake and found a few decent spots (overhanging willows) that have produced a few good chub so far the biggest at 3lb so far pictured below. I'll keep this thread updated as to how I get on.

This river has chub at just under the 6lb mark so a 5 would be amazing

some of those little streams you can run and jump across hold some good fish.must of spent 8 seasons trying to get a 7 pounder lol-one day hopefully. Had probably 50 over the 5 mark and 15 at 6 plus.a

When the old staythorpe power station was running beside the trent the river was full to the brim of chub somthing to do with the warm water from the station i believe. ..I've had 100lbs plus bags on

Best of luck mate, my local rivers are running a bit clear and low at the moment so I'm waiting for a bit of rain, although my mate has taken several 5lb plus chub on the canal whilst fishing a few matches....

Cheers,Matt

Nice fishing for chub, especially when roving. Had some good sessions this year mainly with slugs and freelined crust.

For a really big one it may work to try something a bit different. For example Peter Stone had some huge chub fishing ledgered sardines at night close in (Big Fish from Famous Waters). That's as long as you haven't got pesky signal crayfish like we have.

Cheers for replies lads tried a deep hole with pellets and luncheon meat last Thursday was very hopeful. Perfect swim, big overhanging willow, big snaggy fallen tree just upstream. Scoped it out a few days before and it had a ton of fish rising around it. But all I had were two good brownies, and plenty of disturbance from kids throwing rocks in. Was hoping for a cheeky barbel but it wasn't to be. Onwards and upwards! Hopefully out tomorrow night.

Quick update. Tried trotting with bread for a couple of hours tonight, first time I've tried it. Loved it, foul hooked a grayling plumbing the depth lol, then followed by two nice trout, followed by plenty of missed bites and two small Chub. Should be out trying again on Saturday so here's hoping...

Had a good session yesterday got out early doors, river was low and clear. Fished a fast snaggy run first had 20 puls grayling to 1.5lb on maggot with the pin and an Avon float, mixed in with a few trout. No sign of the chub, probably not enough cover so I moved down to an overhanging willow, couldn't fish the float because of a strong back eddy so I opted for the maggot feeder, first fish was a grayling. Followed by trout up to two pounds, must have had over 20 trout by the end of the day. Plenty of small chub followed when I started casting really close to the willow. Unfortunately no big chub showed.
