Pigeon Magnets

I know these can work really well but in all the cases I know of, it has been shooting with shotguns. Just wondered if any of you have used them to effect on woodies with the air rifle.

I am looking at one for shotgun work with a pal, it would be a real advantage if successful getting them on the ground to use a rifle.

they can work well for shot guns, if there placed out right, but.....a lot of the times (i would say) the pigeons wouldn't land for long enough to get a shot with an air rifle, most times the magnet draws them in, at the last moment the pigeons are a where of the magnet, and fly off without touching the ground, that's were the shot gun is most effective, i haven't heard of anyone doing it with air rifles (i pursume) for this reason, but you could give it a go and see what happens, if you do, let us know how it goes,

Dead pigeons on cradles Phil, for air rifles.

Just place the birds looking busy, in differing directions, with plenty of room between them, for incoming birds to land.( still days)

If you venture out on a windy day, breezy day, never have the decoys in a position so as the wind blows their feathers up,- they will not land, face them "looking busy" with the wind in their faces.

Basically Lads, plastic decoys draw pigeons in for the shotgun, dead decoys on cradles draws them in to land amongst your pattern.

Where do you get the cradles from Mark or have you made them. I have seen a few but if you have some that work well for you, I am interested mate.

Just had a nosey for you Phil.

 

Uttings have them in, 10 for £18, same as I paid at the game fair last year.

 

Look up, pigeon cradles and Sealand Pigeon Cradles will come up,- " they are good quality mate " I am forever using them on all sorts of quarry.

Or just cut a Y shaped twig from the hedge, stick it in the ground and place head in the Y, works just as well and I won't charge you a penny for it,

In the middle of a stubble field, not so easy and to be honest, I can't be arsed looking around for bits of twig, I would prefer every time to have the gear to do the job.

The cradles are that convincing ( presentation ), that I have had pigeons mount a dead presentation.

 

 

I have never yet waited for one to " finish"

Or make your own out of wire coat hangers , they work just as well , and you can bend them to diffrent shapes
