Guest vin
Any of you lads had the hobs gonards chopped off just wondering what the going price is. Just had 3 done..£40 each... not cheap but well worth it..all 3 are in the same hutch now and no problems with them bumming and beating each other up all summer..next season will be the test to see if its affected their working ability/drive.. they were all tested last season and worked very well..so its fingers crossed for the season ahead Quote Link to post

Guest vin
Hobs for Jobs mate....jills for thrills....heheee. I gave up on the Jills a couple of seasons ago after losing a couple of real good grafters and never being able to replace them.. Tried a young frisky cheeky hob and its one of the best thing i did. . . Must thanks Jim for his advice on that one. Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
Vin - absolutely no reason why castrating them will affect their working ability. I've had some terrific castrated hobs including the best worker I've ever had. Only downside is not being able to keep the bloodline going. Quote Link to post
Joe1888 672
bpr has two castrated hobs, didnt affect them working Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
Had one of mine done a couple of months ago, couldnt use him for breeding anymore so got em off lol.Cost £50,hes happier now with two jills for company and all the sexual tension gone lol...Took himout for the first time Monday for a few hours to help a friend out,he did ok,bit slower than usual, but I'm putting that down to the heat and being a bit"ring rusty" having not been worked since march.I could have had him vasectoised for the same price, but the only two experiences of vasectomised hobs Ive had both led to the death of a jill each time (two different hobs, same result) I know a lot like to use them, but its not for me,leave them in season keep em clean ,never lost a jill to seasonal complications in over 20 yrs, jmo.ATB with your kits John 1 Quote Link to post

ZeusPolecat 185
My hobs castrated and is arguably better than the jills, certainly more keen. I doubt it effects their working ability. Quote Link to post
ferretracer 24
Prices do vary and some vets charge silly money for it, the going rate for a hob is between £40-70, I have met somebody who was charged £120 his first hob to be castrated was his only the local vet. If you happen to have have one of the easipet care practices nearby or a bit of a drive there prices are amazing, at the reading branch I pay £27.50 for castration and £40 for a spay and vasectomy http://www.easipetcare.com/ Quote Link to post
