gnipper 6,492
Ok ok ok... Doh!!! I took a photocopy of my gun certificate and a letter off the keeper saying the dogs were worked on the estate and they were fine with that. It's only to cover their own backs. 1 Quote Link to post
stop.end 4,082
I believe the law in the U.K. is if you have a terrier bred for work underground and have a legally held FAC and have written permission to monitor farmland for predators there is an exemption in the tail docking bill as the terrier will be working in confined spaces (i.e) underground. Correct..! Wrong.. The law only says for vermin control and it's only a permission slip from land owner OR land rep,,,which can mean anyone in charge of ANY BIT OF LAND nclueding your own garden as it don't say how big or small said land has to be .So all you really need is a permission letter saying the pup will be used in vermin control on private land and it's down to the vet what they want to see paperwork wise, the law or act is posted on the top of the page so worth a read on what is written in it Wrong? oh ok maybe I worded it wrong... but in my world vermin is a predator... as in Fox, Mink Rat....and thats what I work my terriers at in gardens or farm lands... so I do have permission slips... not ones for backyards... I do have fac and terriers are here for work and not cosmetic purposes... so the exemption says its perfectly logical and ethical why I would get a working terrier pup docked. Quote Link to post

But in the world of the written law, which is all that matters here it says vermin and like i say only a permission letter is needed. Not trying to be anal but the law is pretty simple in it's wording and ain't as bad as folk make out mate and it matters not to the law be it you have one field or half a county it still covers all working terriers .. 2 Quote Link to post

Mottspeed. 0
Hi,pal did you get any help here ? I'm having same trouble in Manchester,no one wants to touch em. If youve been to prison can't get gun licence basically stumped for owning terriers. I've got 2 pat bitches both workers, I also own stud. If parents are anything to go by these pups are gonna be 100% workers. Stud is a black fell, chunky with tail. I don't want these dogs for anything but work. I own a small holding with chickens and a horse so really do need em for pest control.if anyone knows of vets in Tameside or surrounding areas would be appreciated. Quote Link to post

Yes I've found one and they require a shotgun cert. Fortunately I haven't been to prison so I can get one reasonably easily but I believe some vets will take perm letter so that might be your best bet. Quote Link to post
