ChrisJones 7,975
Look for this stuff... If you can't get it locally, send off for some. Wifey took it to the Costa Rican rainforest, not a bite. I use it on the dogs collars as it repels ticks. Apply it to clothing, hats, and boots, and it lasts longer. Anything that crawls, and bites, here is repelled by it. I even spray it inside my boots for black widows, and scorpions. If you're feeling particularly flush have a look at these... Duluth No Fly Zone It's impregnated into the clothing and it's good for 70-100 washes. Decent hard wearing gear too. Forget deet long term it's been linked to Neuro disorders....Just cover your body liberally with tiger balm (the red one) you'll not get bitten.... make sure you apply loads around the edges of your armpits apparently when you swear it makes it stronger to the insects Risk is minimal if you apply it to clothes. Aluminium in deodorant is linked too, if anyone is feeling particularly paranoid. Although I will concur that it's highly unlikely that you'll contract any insect borne nasties in rugged Wales. West Nile Virus, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Lyme disease aren't uncommon where I am. I'd rather go with DEET! Edited August 2, 2016 by ChrisJones

PeskyWabbits 464
I wondered about this stuff as well. When I am on Rat Watch, it is as if I am being attacked by a maniac with a pin. Avon Skin So Soft is well known amongst cyclists and outdoor types but for hunters, won't our quarry be able to smell it? Especially rats at 10 yards. Citrus smells are known to keep cats off your garden, would these repellents also shy away rats? When I was a lad, we used to put vinegar in our hair if we were outside to keep the midges away. But its tears before bedtime if it runs into your eyes.

Jonjon79 13,358
The best way is to soak your clothes in petrol overnight. Then, next day, put them on and go for a walk where you know the little bitters hang out. Wait for loads of them to attack then, light a match and take 'em all with you .... Tak 'em with you Walshie To be honest, regarding the original question, I haven't got a clue - I'm such a sour c**t that I never get bitten Edited August 2, 2016 by Jonjon79
