And why have you said your going to give your pup some stick this season.... Why not give it some stick last season ...if you like to start them so young...what could be any different to last season to this season with your pup ..

My only worry would be that the dog's still not very fit/sharp/fast and will get frustrated when it inevitably misses and yap.

Some pups will sprint around for hours,so as long the grounds ok I can't see 1-2 runs doing any harm.

Jeems going by your philosophy we shouldn't work our dogs to any quarry until they are 15 months old .... Is that what your saying ?????

No its not.

That's how I interpreted what you said too.

You said "as a general rule the growth plates finish development at 15 months, and its in the dogs interest not to put work like pressure on the joints until they have finished growing".

When I was a kid, there used to be this black belt who looked like steve jacks the karate expert, he taught his young pupils to punch solid objects, said it caused slight stress fractures in the kids hands. And that the human body would make the bones harder and thicker where the stress fractures were to stop them fracturing again. I've heard quite a few athletes do the same, so maybe there is something in running dogs at 7 months on easy rabbits, not the point that it causes damage. It may teach them to roll and slide instead of cart wheel when they fall, maybe.

Its a bit like the old English longbow archers who started training at around the age of 8 I think. There is logic in that, but the training would have to consist of fast walking and trotting on hard surfaces wouldnt it? That sort of steady repetitive action that builds up over time. Its controlled at least.

Theres a difference to giving a 9-15 month old pup a few outings to doing 3 - 4+ nights days a week with them is there not .. Im sure ken doesnt exspect a 9 month old pup to work everyday along side his older dogs.. Alot of common sense gone out the window in this thread i must say...

This thread isn't about 9-15 month old pups though fella. It's about triggers pup.

And I think you will find Kens pups are out working with him daily from day one. I might be wrong. Ask the man.
