Ballynahinch Game Fair - Exciting New Working Dog Format

Recommended Posts

Albert my mate that hunts with me and has done for a long time week in week out went to Ballynahinch with his wife and young kids, he enjoys almost any family day out extra bonus if it's centred around his likes. He said it was piss poor! Well I'm lying he said worse. They took a dander around jumped into the jeep and drove home. Suppose that's rumour because I wasn't there in person? Just the way content has been removed from this thread! Suppose thats not true either and it's only speculation and I've got an agenda? Catch yourself on you're pissing down dogmens backs and telling them it's raining. You've came on here all summer denying this and that. Are you telling me men I know well and hunt with every year that live and breathe hunting with dogs are that petty that they make up stories about YOU and a dog show on a Saturday afternoon in July or whatever month. Of course the disgruntled show men with their ponies will be at there work but don't come on here and tell constant lies an insult men's intelligence, you'd think a man of your age would have better sense. Enjoy organising your shows for next year while the rest of us our enjoying our season.

When are you ever going to make a post based on your OWN EXPERIENCES? You seem to live your life through other people's experiences - even your alias is 'someone's'! I am afraid I can't answer every rumour, or what someone told someone else.

I think a lot of dog men are thinking the same chum and just haven't the balls to say it, Albert I would say the support of real hunting lads is slipping away from you chum,,,

Albert does the £50 still stand ? You said earlier that if the general could prove you on a lie you would donate £50 . Well I can definitely call you on a lie " you said that the general left a post s

It amuses me that the main criticism of events which PROMOTE COUNTRY SPORTS and give a good public profile to TERRIERS, LURCHERS , FERRETS & WHIPPETS is by people who weren't there and who base their opinion on rumour. This includes BLACKBUCK who hoped that it would snow for Birr - now that's what I call a real supporter of country sports! All of the REAL countrysports enthusiasts including all the countrysports bodies ( including the IWTF) were there to promote the country sports cause both to enthusiasts and members of the public.

You can see why the opinion of people like BLACK BUCK doesn't really matter!

Of course you have an agenda - All of your posts appear to be based on rumour or that someone told you something and based on attacking events that PROMOTE and DEFEND COUNTRYSPORTS. While true country sports enthusiasts including all the main country sports organisations ( IWTF included) attend our fairs to there promote country sports to real enthusiasts ( that we should all stick together) and the public ( that country sports are good for the countryside) You were waiting to jump in with criticism based on hearsay and rumour.

You've really flipped the coin there Albert. Game fairs that promote country sports are no problem it's yourself and the high horse you put yourself on while you constantly lie and refute situations that have occurred and put them to one side is the problem. If you where open and honest I'd say your earn more respect but you incapable of doing so.

Also if Ballynahinch was so successful where is all the posts saying "great day out etc."? I don't see them. So the proof is in the pudding, don't be kidding yourself. I was at Moate show, the only dog show I attended this year. A working dog show. It was a great success and the IWTF where present, it was a family day out and raised a lot of money for the federation. All you have to do is look at that thread and see the results and comments. A great success and promoted terrier Lurcher and hound work. Ask yourself WHY when a terrier and Lurcher show can be organised by individuals, yet men and women and children from all over the country and from across the water, travel to it just to take part and meet up with like minded folk and it can be such a success? Yet at game fairs that you organise there is a poor show when terriers and lurchers are concerned and constant bickering between each other. That's the contrast that you can't see. Something is obviously amiss. You organise these events so I'm sure you're aware of the situation. Maybe if you take in people's views rather than taking everything someone says as a personal attack then you might find the answer.

Of course I rebut inaccurate allegations passed on second and third hand by people like you. And you have the cheek to say I lie about accusation which you have made - now a challenge to you I will give £50 to the IWTF if you can give just one example where I posted a lie in response to any of YOUR allegations. We have organised game fairs for 38 years to promote and defend country sports in Ireland and during that period of time we have had the support of virtually ALL OF THE MAIN COUNTRYSPORTS BODIES and real countrysports enthusiasts who see the advantages of us creating a forum where like minded people can come together to discuss their sports and to promote them to a public audience , in order that if they do not join us they will be sympathetic to us. The fairs are much, much more than a terrier & lurcher show - all of the sports are represented there. But for some reason it is people like you in the terrier & lurcher fraternity who appear to like to voice ill informed criticism on the basis of rumour. I am pleased that you have admitted that you were not at any of our events yet you have had the temerity to make judgements on them.

In view of your alias I thought the might prove a lesson to you about how silly it can be when you make pronouncements on the basis of rumour or second or third hand rumour:

"

One of the methods of communicating from one officer to another in the trenches of the present great war is to give the message to one of the privates and tell him to pass the word along the line until it reached its destination, viz., the officer at the other end.

The following story will show how a serious message can be distorted on its journey from mouth to mouth:— Lieutenant A., in charge of one end of the British line told the private in front to pass the word along to Lieutenant B.: “We are going to advance, can you send us reinforcements?” When Lieutenant B. received the message it was like this: “We are going to a dance, can you lend us three and fourpence?”

You don't like answering questions. They are the sentences that end in ? incase you didn't know. If you answer them then maybe you might get somewhere, but you don't. You obviously don't want to for one reason or another. I haven't attacked you personally. I've only asked you questions, so continue to try and flip it whatever way you want while you beat about the bush and call me an anti in the proceeds. Maybe that's why you pay for security at your shows, is it for self protection?

READ OUR FACEBOOK page for the comments you are seeking! I applaud and support the work of the IWTTF and other groups organising working shows and indeed I sponsor quite a few and give qualifiers to many others. BUT the Game Fair has a more open focus to promote country sports both inwardly to enthusiasts and outwardly to the public. It promotes clay shooting and gundog tests but both also have specialist events. It will never be simply a working dog show although working dogs enthusiasts are very well catered for with unrivalled prize structures and facilities.

I think you are the one who liked making second or third hand inaccurate allegations but doesn't like answering questions - I've asked you a question and put up a challenge - now lets hear the answers?????????

The challenge to 'THE GENERAL' " Of course I rebut inaccurate allegations passed on second and third hand by people like you. I posted my experiences above like you asked. Yet you ignored it, the same as you do everything else as you choose to do. You never replied to anything concerning the posts, you go into the same rant about supporting country sports and x amount of years while completely ignoring what your being asked and to understand. The same spiel over and over again like a broken record then you begin to insult me in the proceeds lol. I don't play games, games are for children, you are a clown Albert.

STILL NO ANSWER TO THE CHALLENGE!

The challenge lmao. You don't like being challenged and you refuse to answer questions. So why would I do what you ask? Which is basically name men's names and events on the www. for all to see? Just so you can tell more lies and if you don't like it get the posts deleted. Keep your £50 you've lined your pockets with from other people. You haven't answered a single question that I've asked you and none of them where hard questions just contrasts and things you should think about if you want to improve in certain areas what you already do. You obviously don't want to, it's already got silly so at this stage if your not open and can't have a reasonable discussion, I'm done. It's like flogging a dead horse.

Unlike you I would be very happy to answer any constructive question based on facts not rumour. Talk about children - you behave like an old tittle tattler seizing on any bit of second hand gossip or rumour to attack our events - WHICH YOU ADMIT YOU DID NOT ATTEND. You also posted hoping that it would snow on the largest gathering of supposedly fellow countrysports people at Birr. Man up and admit all you are doing is passing on gossip not facts.

Above is based on truth and not rumour, constructive questioning based on personal experience. I can't see any posts saying a great day was had by all apart from YOU, the organiser. Not biased at all are you lol. Talk about blowing your own trumpet. Feel free to reply to the constructive discussion and try your best to leave the name calling out of it.

The Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions Saturday 7thSeptember 24
Laurencetown is famous for its green fields, ancient buildings, walled gardens and extensive lawns stretching down to the River Bann. But as well as these famous landmarks, Laurencetown can add another string to its bow by adding the annual Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions to its attractions and venue.
Saturday was one of the warmest days of the year with the sun shinning down continuously. I got burned alive but all well worth it. Our Country Sportsmen, women and children came out to this now annual dog show to enjoy the last days of the summer sunshine.
Our summer Dog shows have become canine excursions from all parts of the country North and South of the Border. Saturday was no exception with a good turnout of Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets and Strong dogs.
And wait for it, the big surprise of the day and what a pleasant surprise that was. The McGrath Racing Club arrived unexpectedly for a family day out to support the show. And guess what they acted on the spot with an impromptu few races to the joy of many of the racing fraternity at the show.
The childrens handling class was first on the list and judged by Marian Cree. What a turnout of children in the ring on Saturday. I can still see the smile on Clodagh Gentle face on winning 1st with her   Whippet Clive. These young boys and girls are our sportsmen and women of tomorrow. I have no doubt in my mind that these little people will carry on the sport after our day. Well done Marian and congratulations to all.

LBKs DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SUNDAY 1stSEPTEMBER 24
Scrabo Tower is one of Northern Irelands most iconic landmarks and stands majestically on the hill 540 feet above sea level. Beneath the pathway to Scrabo Tower lies the famous family run farm Scrabo Cottage Farm with its beautiful landscapes, scenic views, and a birds eye view right across Belfast. This was the venue for the LBKs Dog Show and Race day Sunday 1stSeptember 24.
As venues go for shows, this was up there among the best. I can honestly say I have never seen such a display of Plaques, Trophys and first class Rosettes on display, and all up for grabs on the day. Dogs and Bitches in every category were split up and each allocated their own Championship and reserve and at the end of the day an Overall Champion and Reserve.
Everything was planned meticulously, and all of the day went without a hitch. The rings were well spaced out, toilet, Burger stand, Country Sports stand, brilliant racetrack, and a bouncy castle for the wee people.
The views from this venue were to die for. With the shadow of Scrabo looking down on us, we had a clear view right across Belfast and beyond. This venue being cited on a hill, there was a cool breeze all day with small specks of rain in between.
It was nice to meet up with so many like minded people in the country sports fraternity. I had the pleasure of been introduced too renowned and international terrier judge Mr Robert Booth. What a gentleman he was. We had a nice conversation and he told me he loved Ireland and that he lived in County Tipperary for some time and knew the country quite well. Robert also presented Harry John Digging with a lovely Trophy set on a wooden stand for reaching out his friendship to him and to commemorate his time in Northern Ireland. What a lovely gesture.
It was a day of good will and presentations when Harry John Digging presented Peter Morgan with a lovely plaque for respect for running his shows. What better man with a lifetime of experience.
Niall O Cloghan and his sons were on site with their now very popular Terrier Maze. As the work in the field will begin shortly, It was great to see the excitement of the working terrier men when their prized terriers negotiated the Terrier Maze with speed and come out the other side to win the fastest time championship. This accolade went to Jed Donagh with PiP and Reserve to Lee Spiers with Buddy. Well done team O Cloghan.
Time passes so quickly, very soon it was Race time.

The McGrath Racing team Biddy, Michael, Jack, and Anthony, you are tops. You set the place a light with your professionalism and experience and run the racing so effective and efficiently on the day. There is a lot of hard work goes into running racing and all credit goes to team Mc Grath.
And Finally, Finally, Harry John Digging you were definitely the King of Scrabo on Sunday and in a league of your own. Along with your back up angel Gail Ross, who pulled out all the stops to make everything run so smoothly, and Sam Ross the photographer who took some lovely photographs, you brought town and country North and South of the border together for another great sporting day out.
You are a shinning light in our Country Sport traditions and for a first time show and venue, it was excellent and without contradiction.  Harry John Digging you should be proud of the work you done on Sunday. Thank you for a day full of joy and excitement and roll on 2025 for more of the same.
