Seen this article this morning.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/28/how-british-are-you-mapped-dna-testing-shows-the-most-anglo-saxo/

Other than it grinding on me that they keep calling Anglo-Saxons, British, lol! I like this sort of stuff.

I've been thinking of doing one of the DNA heritage tests. Anybody else done one?

In short; Yorkshire was found to have the most Anglo-Saxon blood, closely followed by the East Mid's which also has the most Scandinavian. Unsurprisingly London was the most diverse! LOL

I think my fellow East Midlanders will be happy with that, eh lads? :D

Can we make an effort not to turn this thread into the usual political bollocks and bitching please gents.

I've just done a rough fag packet calculation........ if you carry the one and round up I'd say that leaves you approximately half Yorky, quarter Scot and quarter unknown.

Interesting, what was here before the Saxons invaded were we more related to Celts etc or was it something else?

To the best of my knowledge it was the tribes of Britons, who were the descendants of the original settlers of the UK from the last ice age. I think they are Celts but I'm not sure?

Similar story for what I know of my ancestry. From what I've seen from my uncle's research the vast majority, going back 400 years are from Lincs/E.Mids, most within a stones throw and were generally farmers. I can't remember much detail, something I must do one day.

At a guess, if my ancestors really were as rooted in this area as I'm led to believe, it looks like we're probably a typical mix of Anglo-Saxon/Briton with a healthy dose of Scandinavian from the Danelaw. There's a bit of speculation that we might have a bit of Romany in too.

I don't know how much you can take from physically observable traits but it is interesting. I've also read that there's a group of Norwegians that have relatively dark skin/hair for Scandinavia? Counter to the stereotypical Swede (which is probably what most think of as Scandi) - tall, blonde hair, blue eyes and Persil-pale skin!

That's interesting as my wife said a very similar thing when researching my looks as I have dark skin black hair but green eyes... Everyone on my dad's side is dark with green eyes but I do know like I said they were Romany barge gypsies they used to run coal along the trent before the trains took over
