They run like they have never been out of the kennel, I have owned a couple of crosses over the years that made the hares look like they were standing still. Even my 9 mth old bitch is faster than that lot. She is a whippet x deerhound/grey

Put them out on rough ground out on the hill and then see them run ,total different animal a Deerhound out in its proper environment running what they were bred to run.

Clues in the name deerhound, put back to a lurcher or grey and they add decent ingredients.they were never going to catch a hare on the flat farmland.

Those mk2 astras would been new back then lol ,plenty of Volvos there an looked like citroen CX or BX estate.

Ones we used (rough coated) were far from half hearted, and would match any running dog I've seen on most game, but far from pure breds

Point less none of them could catch a deer let alone a hare a pure collie would given them hares more stik

As said above, most looked like this was the only time they saw game but the occasional one looked like it could be useful. I'd like to have seen this shot on a modern camera. Most of the time I couldn't even see the hare.
