It'd be interesting I can tell ya that. Now, Mixedgrill, in your years and years of experience please enlighten us as to why a failed earth dog can make a good rock dog ? And to Stopend, in your years and years of experience (even though you get out of dogs for long periods at a time) could you tell us why you were criticizing lads terriers who work in rocks but clearly showed you haven't a clue but then tell us you've actually worked terriers in the rocks of Donegal. Please tell us of some of your experiences. It'll be interesting. Fatman has worked terriers in Donegal. Maybe he'll know the places you've worked your Jack Russells in the rocks. Quote Link to post
liamdelaney 2,587
Have to take my hat off to the men and dogs that who work the rocks, they are scary looking places.Personally I would be afraid to let my dogs in,but then I dont have to,but for men who work this terrain I presume they have no choice, rocks are all they have. Many years ago a Welshman judged the terrier section in Roscrea(his name escapes me)he gave best terrier to what I thought was a scaldy looking terrier,he told me afterwords it was perfect for the rocks in his part of Wales,so you learn something new everyday. 5 Quote Link to post

I don't I have a life ;)atb dc 3 Quote Link to post
Rat face 1,655
Lets not ruin a lads thread if working the rocks not for you fair enough but let's not start slagging lads off who do, generations of terrier men have worked rock and its a big part of fell hunting. Fair play to the boys that still do it i mostly dig now but as a teen earlier 20s i spent hours walking the moors checking piles for a bolt, and i still have the odd walk out now with my cousin and his fell type and if i could get my hands on the right kind of breeding there would be always space in my yard for that kinda tyke Edited August 5, 2016 by Rat face 3 Quote Link to post

Nancy was her name and she was racey, well bred, hard and could jump a 5 foot wall only touching the top of it. Her nose was excellent but she was retired after 3 seasons. If ever I had a terrier I reckon could've been a proper a terrier for the rocks, it was her. I still have her sister here, now 8, but she's cobby and looks like a little bull terrier and much more steady in her work. But when I'm shooting or hunting around quarries now and see a crack in the rocks I wish to myself I wish I had Nancy. I'll never know. 2 Quote Link to post

Rat face 1,655
Most piles you can dig bud if you have the right crew of lads and the right machinery and tools. i know what your saying mixed grill its not for you that's fair enough but you can just as easily lose a dog in a earth as you can rock, but they aren't ornaments bud they are there to work, you take the chance of losing your dog every time you loosen that collar.
