spike 0
I agree with Dekers post. Springers are hold sensetive, each one being different. The recoil & hold sensetivity presents more chance of error with shot placement and therefore not getting a clean kill. PCP for hunting every time IMO Quote Link to post
Raider 0
Just of the phone with my uncle and he said he could get me a bottle on the cheap no probs if I wanted one but asked "why not just use a compressor?". Can you use a compressor to fill an airgun? if so im sett and if not I can get a bottle Thanks Quote Link to post

Can you use a compressor to fill an airgun? if so im sett and if not I can get a bottle Thanks Now I'm not sure on this one but if that was the case we would all be doing it....my understanding is that a compressor to give you 185 - 220 bar (most 12ft lb Air rifles are in that range and Daystate near the top of it), would cost a fortune, far more than a bottle....the charging equipment at my local dive centre came to more than £10,000. You do of course also need dry air, many compressors will not deliver that. Buying used bottles should not be any problem because of test requirement but remember you need an air rifle valve on it not a dive valve. Quote Link to post

Thought it sounded too easy Do you get an air rfle valve with your gun or is it extra? Do you "need" dry air? What about those manual pums then? This PCP carry on is alot more complicated than I thought but love learning about a new weapon for hunting Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
Using a normal air compressor for filling PCP i wouldnt recommend it .The air put into guns needs to be dry, free of any foreign bodies ie dust & air compressors carry water in their tanks even after bleeding. Also by the time you have purchased compressor , the valve & bleed that you,ll need it will be cheaper to buy a bottle probalies. Also maybe safer ... The air must be dry or your resevoir and breach and even to some extent your barrel (all parts in contact with this air) are likely to start rusting from the inside. The fill adaptor should come with your rifle but you will not get the bottle valve with the gun (or with the bottle), seperate cost, cant remember what they cost its so long ago since I bought mine. The pumps are expensive and to be honest I only know 1 person who has one and he wishes he had a bottle. Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
I will tell him to look out for a bottle then . What size would you recommend? :hmm:for 40-50 shots a week Roughly how often will it need filled and tested?Sorry about all the questions but want to get this sorted soon as so I can get my licence As far as I'm aware ALL 12ft lb PCP will do at least 40-50 shots per charge, some do (at least the manufacturers say they do) 300-400shots per charge! I have a 12L 232 Bar bottle, but if I had my time again I would buy the same size but 300bar. HOWEVER mine is running at 26 ft lb, I get about 32 shots per charge and I use it a lot. Some examples I nicked from another post. 3litre cylinder at 232 bar holds 696litres of air 3litre cylinder at 300bar holds 900 litres of air 7 litre at 232 bar holds 1624 litres 7litre at 300 bar holds 2100 litres 10litre at 232 bar holds 2320 litres 10 litre at 300 bar holds 3000 litres and so on My view is buy a 3 or 7L 300Bar bottle and it should cope with everything you want! A bottle with an Air Rifle Valve on it must be tested every 5 years What is this bit... but want to get this sorted soon as so I can get my licence If you are thinking of going FAC buy the 7L or 10L 300Bar bottle, perhaps even think about the 12L 300Bar! Or is it simply because in Ireland you need the licence. Edited December 6, 2007 by Deker Quote Link to post

Forgot...you may also find you need a connecting hose....your gun dealer and or Midland will be able to help you with this! Edited December 6, 2007 by Deker Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
Top man Deker I'm going to bed...I've got a stinking cold, that's why I'm not out shooting at the moment,...... but just had a look on the Midlanddiving.com website (first time for years) and see they do complete Air rifle packages, bottle, valve and hose...with any luck your dealer should be able to offer the same (if you need it all). Many dealers use Midland themselves anyway! Cheers Deker Quote Link to post
