THE GENERAL 1,982
I've just had a terrier experience a bad turn, one hour after worming with Milbemax. The dog got the proper dosage and up until today I've had nothing only good things to say about this brand of wormer. Dog was at back of garden with another terrier, when I called them he wouldn't come, stood looking at me in a half crouched position stiff looking and I knew something wasn't right. I called him again and he came up the garden still stiff but nearly sideways with legs still half crouched and moving away from my direction head first into a line of 3 bins along a fence and down he went. First thing I thought was he was choking on something? as he wasn't breathing properly and foaming at the mouth. Checked his airways were clear and it was then I realised he's taken a bad reaction to the milbemax wormer. Kept him on his side and stayed with him as the seizure passed which was a long 5-10 mins for me. Ive since read up on it and there's a compound nearly the same as ivermectin in milbemax wormers. Usually collie types and some other dogs with the known MDR1 gene are at risk if administered products with ivermectin. There's no collie in this dog, but I'm just letting people know to be careful as I thought I was going to lose him, lucky enough he's ok now. Anyone else get any bother using milbemax ? THE GENERAL 1,982
Just to add I've never wormed this particular dog with milbemax before, the rest are fine with it. As I say I've always sworn by it, this dog won't be getting it again. Edited July 21, 2016 by THE GENERAL
neil cooney 10,416
Glad he's OK and that's worth remembering. I used them a few years ago as they cover lungworm but wasn't overly impressed.
