straight2hand 303
There was an advert a couple of months back in the countryman's weekly of Saluki lurcher x fell hound pups, Has anyone seen/got any of the pups, just wondering what they were like. Quote Link to post

Teckers 649
Iv been up to the fells a few times now to watch these hounds work and they're a cracking specimen, I'd love to see a lurcher with this in the mix, wouldn't they open up though if hunting Quote Link to post
Ross M 149
So a good cross to me, maybe the next cross again back to a nice collie type would blend well Quote Link to post

Teckers 649
Lovely stamp pal did you use them on the lamp or did you just keep them for the day time Quote Link to post
straight2hand 303
Lamp mate most of time to be honest, no opening up what so ever, My uncle started the line a good while ago, the greyhound bitch killed a fox and hare while he had her and the original Fell hound knocked up 3 foxes in a day, the two met and the line was born! Teckers 649
I bet they could run fella and had bags full of drive, them fells cover some ground 1 Quote Link to post
straight2hand 303
The concept was the toughness and gameness of a bull x type and the stamina of a saluki x. o.k we all know certain types specialize on certain quarry e.g saluki to hare but as an all round dog you can't go wrong. Those hounds will smash through brick walls to get to a fox and can run all day long. The Fell hounds are a lot lighter than the Fox hounds to run up and down the Fell's all day so must have the required engine. In my book that is a lot of what I want in a dog, while working with no slip to heel. In short they they are brave and strong the first x maybe lacked the pace to catch a regular hare but could take a fallow single handed all day long. 1 Quote Link to post
Teckers 649
I was up the fells last weekend and had a few conversations about what they'd add to the lurcher and I was saying a hell of a lot as u say the engine, drive great feet, powerful obviously a great nose, they are a fantastic looking hound fair do's, but as with crossing any sort of hound I'd worry about them opening up 3 Quote Link to post
straight2hand 303
many people have said the same with fair course but all i know is they don't open up - do all collies try to herd sheep and why bother with the bull x cos all they would do is fight? - no, remember the ancient breeds like the greyhounds and salukis seem to take dominance in crossing of dogs and you try to choose the most lurcher like of pups, they are not hunting by scent so why open up? I admit it is not a guarantee but I never even let a collie x run around on its own hunting as I am a lamping man- I can only say about this line, they are a good x, It is a lot to do with raising a pup as well. meet up for a lamping session and you can see the x in the field some time. They retrieve, jump catch and carry thats all i can say remember only half hound in them ATB S2H 2 Quote Link to post
arcticgun 4,548
A fella off here bought what was considered at the time as something new Lurcher wise she turned out too be a great allrounder for him funny enough it come from same kennel as there ones so they from the very best available in their respective fields when natural instincts as high are mixed the offspring can be very interesting and handy crosses for allsorts of work 1 Quote Link to post
