I was coming out of the bar last night just after 11, there was 5 Moate locals having a smoke, they asked me what the occasion was...I told them it was a dog show and they couldnt believe it.... they wondered how over 50 hunting men could gather in the one bar at the one time drinking the bar dry and singing along to old Irish song and not a cross word between any of them.....I said that's cos there too busy finding out about lines to be cross lol...and that's how it went on right into stupid o clock... a lot of rough heads on flights and ferrys today id say...but id bet theyd do it all tomorrow again at the drop of a hat..... Fair play to Darren who had a lot of terriers to choose from 35 in the black dog class, 29 in the black bitch class... 29 white dogs and 23 white bitches... Lakeland class was also popular with 19 dogs and 15 bitches....and the cross breeds had a fair gathering also...

LOL...when you start getting flash backs of one liners men come out with, and conversations that were had, and chuckling its good ..... yous sure know how to throw a sesh!

you should have said, there's a few gathering ammo but will fight like feck on the hunting life later on haha

It makes you laugh the dribble some people spout out how does anyone know that the dogs are not worked that won any of the classes some dogs you have too be close too see that they have signs of work on them don't forget dogs are judged on confirmation not mutalation the dog that won over all looked a very tidy worker in the end ps the show has nothing too do with the iwtf myself and pat pick the judges and have never once influenced the judges decision in either ring we don't even collect the money in the rings in case people started those rumours but there's always a handful of whinges that hide behind a user name that has nothing better too do

Why do people get so upset over a f***ing rossette, its out in the country where a terrier makes its name not parading about on a lead in circles around a ring,There were some very decent looking dogs on show at the westmeath and also a lot of rossette hunters but who cares its only a bit of craic at the end of the day.I know Dillydog a long time now and know that he would always choose a worker above anything else, the man has been working terriers a long time and knows what he's about so to the lads that think otherwise, build a bridge.

The Westmeath WTC should be very proud of the event last Sunday, what a great day for working dogs and hunting in general.

It was a great to meet like minded characters and exchange ideas about the dogs we breed.

Working Terrier and Lurcher owners could get up to date information about Countryside insurance, Micro-chipping and IWTF membership.

Not from the internet but face to face with representatives from these organisations, a few people even got their dogs chipped on the day.

The prizes were second to none and Kevin, Pat and their families put in enormous work to arrange the show, 4 course meal afterwards, Music and Craic into the small hours (some got to bed after 5 the following morning)

For those asking about photographs take a look at the "Westmeath Working Terrier Club Show" page on Facebook.

The All Ireland digging champions were two lads from England and they beat off strong competition. Those lads can dig!!

For the few that are whinging about rosettes? I don't know what to say to you....possible grow up.

This is a bit of fun, every judge makes the choice based on his own preferences and we must respect their decision.

Its not easy being a judge, there will always be people who are disappointed that the dog did not win.

Both judges did an excellent job picking a dog as a winner.

I for one will be booking early again next year.

The show was top class, as is always.... a lot of genuine working dog men show up for this show....men you definitely wouldn't see at many other shows, the prizes are great the raffle is great... the Judges Kevin and Pat pick for the show the first and foremost is he has to be a WORKING judge... Darren works his dogs and has bred some very good dogs himself and still continues to do so I think his C.V. speaks for itself... even the digging comp is not for the faint hearted or goldfish buriers...its 30 mins of tough going in hard ground with some good men on the tools compete... how come over 50 men can go and have a drink together and talk dogs all nite and not a single argument between grown men... then some child doesn't seem to have been picked or liked the JUDGES choice and has to come on and try for negative comments about a show he could only dream of pulling of himself. 4 Pages of good words and respect for the men who run it and WHY they run it to fund a federation fighting to PROTECT terrier work... It tells you a lot when the IWTF committee is there to answer any questions some may have or to renew their membership to the fed, for some to renew insurance and have a day out showing or spectating in terriers .....and 3 childish negative comments is still some achievement for an oul show on the hunting life. so take no notice of snide comments you just cant please everyone
