Magazine problems with my CZ 452 and pillar bedding question.

Recommended Posts

I have a CZ 452 .17HMR and when I get down to 3/2 rounds left in the mag, when I try and reload the bolt won’t pick up the next round instead it pushes it down and slides over the top. If I hold the mag and push it up from the bottom its fine, I’ve only had the gun 6 months from new so it’s not like it’s had a hammering.

Would this problem be down to the spring in the mag being knackered?

Also if anyone has found a good “how to†on pillar bedding or done it them selves, could you point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Hey mate! I have the same rifle and i did find that the magazine and the feed cycle a bit sticky at first. However after a few hundred rounds and after the action has been cycled a few times, it should slicken up after, try a few drops of 3 in 1 oil on the bolt slide helps to slicken up the action as well. As for the mag, try takeing it apart and stretching the spring a little. This should give it more upwards pressure on the rounds and there for it should catch each round and load it into the breech.

I have liquid metal bedded the action on my rifle and this helps to combat long term zero shift from wood warpage in varying climates. I got a kit of ebay for £30, easy and simple to use. Hope this info helps. Cheers

Cheers Tomy I'll give the spring a stretch later

How do you find it shoots after bedding the stock?

I've made sure the barrel is free floating by taking off the stock and giving it a sanding to take out any high spots, I found loads of post on rimfirecentral.com saying its something everyone should look at.

dont think its the spring in the mag, it more than likely will be the follower.(the bit the bullets sit on)it has a leg at each side adjust the one thats under the rim end of the bullet inwards just a couple of mm. that should lift the back end of the round up so the bolt catches it. but be carefull the legs break easy if you bend them to many times.

Hey again mate! I find it shoots better and holds its groups better if you bed the action. The reason being if you zero the rifle in warmer/ colder weather as the weather temp and humidity rises or falls the wood will expand or contract slightly, putting pressure on differant parts of the action and barrel. Therefor shifting the zero. This isnt a problem with synthetic stocks as you dont have the expanding or contracting in the wood.

Well done for floating the barrel mate, thats the first step. This should help with the group sizes, next try to bed the action. Be aware that if you do it your self it will probably void the warranty on your gun and also make sure you coat the action in the anti seize compound beforE you bed it. I had a mate who forgot to do this and the action had completey locked up in the stock, as the compound dried. The funneist part was he had forgoten to put his new £100 match trigger in before hand. HA HA HA
