Labour MPs are appealing to David Miliband to return to UK politics in a desperate bid to oust Jeremy Corbyn.

 

Senior backbenchers want Miliband, who quit politics to run a charity in the US, back here as quickly as possible.

 

And they say one possible route would be for him to stand in the Batley and Spen seat left empty by the killing of Jo Cox.

 

No date has been set for a by-election but rumours are growing that the solid Labour seat would be ideal for Miliband.

 

One backbencher said: “It’s something that is being looked at. This would give David time to get back into the swing of Parliament, build up his profile and then mount a leadership ­challenge.

 

“A lot of people think he’d be the perfect solution.”

 

They really are so out of touch with the membership it's ridiculous, as if the slimey c**t would stand any chance in a leadership election I mean he lost to his geeky little brother last time he stood for leader

If hunting is that important to you then obviously you should use your vote support it, I'm not telling anyone how they should vote just explaining that for the vast majoirty of the voting public, even those who hunt, hunting is way down on the list of their priorities when it comes to choosing who should run the country.

 

If the only pro-hunting party was also pro-mass immigration and wanted to rejoin the EU I'm sure you wouldn't vote for them just like many hunters decide they can't in good conscience vote for a pro-austerity right wing party just because they're pro-hunting. Both perfectly valid positions that don't need to be mocked or insulted.

I see no difference now and those around me than when labour were in power under Blair and Brown though i was out of work fore a wile after the crash of 08 and due to labour welcoming thousands of immegrants to the town work was hard to come by.

When you have debt with interest it's very hard to claw it back under control. Only the most delusional person can claim the tories made it worse. They should have slashed the budget really hard instead of carrying on with Brown's policy. Labour have always spent more than they made, there's plenty of 'data' to show that over the decades.

I really can't be arsed arguing over discredited austerity economics with someone who is ideologically opposed to all public spending, obviously you're never going to agree with anything that doesn't back up your political stance.

 

But if you think the only way to "balance the books" is to see child poverty increasing, wages stagnating, folk in work relying on foodbanks, people dying of malnutrition and starvation, homelessness skyrocketing etc etc then is it really worth it? The idea that the only way to reduce national debt is to cut government spending, which actually shrinks the economy, instead of taking advantage of low interest rates to borrow and invest growing the economy and increasing revenue to pay off debt and reduce reliance on borrowing is ridiculous, just because that's what you'd like to see from an ideological perspective doesn't mean it's the only possible path and it's showing a stunning case of ideological blindness to act like it is.
