Coirdhecan 2
I have a 7 year old alapaha bulldog (ill never get another) in the house and I have 2 Staffords in kennels on my yardwhy whats alapaha bulldog like , good or soft temp dog as regards guard dog, my brother had e/bulldog bitch and she was good little guard, she looked the part, and would growl by your legs, deff put you off going to his place lolHe's a bloody good guard dog probably the most intelligent dog I've had, he's my youngest best mate and would die for her but he's been plagued by ill health (especially of late) he's had entroipin from a pup and every year has had to have it rectified, he contracted tetanus at the age of 2 and we almost lost him and really hadn't recovered from that and of late it's like he's just given up, when I walk him it's like walking a 14 year old Labrador that's on his last knocking. He's been tested for everything that can cause lathargy but all have come back clear. It's heartbreaking cos before he was so astute and alert. it doesn't surprise me, most a/b your breed, bullmastiffs all have big health probs, it was one of the reasons i came out of the breed(bullmastiffs) even few pits were getting HD and eye probs. i had lurchers really as i wanted just a healthy type of dog at 1st, but once i knew what they could do, and catch me few dinners i stuck with them now for 30 years. and i still say a good guard collie x gsd, one thats been brought up on a farm a barker/biter ,or a nasty little jack lolDon't know what I'll get yet for a door stopper when he's gone, something big enough to make someone think twice about trying to get in If that pic of the GSD on the fox don't sell ya,I don't know what will Seriously if it ended up as good obedient hunter, good guard and healthy, that's perfect imo. deff mate ,Buck dam just the same , she guards the house , but goes out with her owner doing fox control with terriers , she had foxes at holes and in cover, thats why i went for her to have a pup from her , and Buck been great dog , plenty of fire in his belly I do like them alanos but it's a long way off yet, my 2 staffs keep me active but eventually I'll replace them when their time comes, got a lot of time on my hands these days so will keep myself open minded in the next few years i like the alanos as well, great breed of dog, not ruined by the KC as yet .! the pups though are fetching silly money, you pay from £1200-1800, you better getting a well bred pit x lurcher do the same job. But as bull breeds go the Alano deff one of the healthiest out there, i reckon x them to a greyhound or lurcher you get great hunting dog, and not bad guard. A out and out guard today are a boerboel , great family dog but hell of a guard dog , but same again they like all big heavy breeds have health probs, like bullmastiffs , but not as bad . but they get over bred and ruined long term you wont beat a gsd x collie or little jack As Downsouth said, the 2 goons over here are putting crap out, think one of em is some twat that sells collars. Someone has said about the aluants being better than the Alano but I don't know to much them but as I've said its a while off, might end op with a coccker poo or a labradoodle ? That's him mate he's a proper dick and a grass to go with it.Seen his dogs at a training day that he was trying to work his way into to sell his cheap shot collars and stuff.Didnt like it when I told him I'd kick his shit dogs and his head in if it grabbed my pup again then called him a dirty grass in front of a field full of people. If you like the Alapahas I know a lady who breeds them who's dogs are all imports who puts ALL the relevant health tests on them hips, elbows, heart, eyes etc And she trains with us and sends her dogs of with my pal who's one of the country's top trainers/decoys and her dogs really do go and are driven as f**k. My boy had incredible drive and guarding instinct, it was four years before he accepted my daughters boyfriend, in fact he just didn't like men at all, when my mates used to come round I'd have to put him in another room. But, as if over night, he just stopped being that dog, like he's just given up and it's heart breaking, I've got an open plain behind me and we used to have a lot of fun over there, but now it's like walk in an elderly lab and he's only 7 I won't get another Alapaha I'll want something that can catch on a regular basis. My 2 staffs are 10 and 12 and they still pull like trains Quote Link to post

rippem 455
A lot of the pics of the dogs on here that are supposed to be tough don't look like it in any of the pics. And the dutchy is not big enough to stop a big man ready to throw down..how do you guys know how tough your dog is if you don't put heat on them? If you do then why not post pics of them biting a hiding sleeve do I get some type of man work? Quote Link to post
HPR 1,161
Is it just a bad pic dosnt look like it's got any bone to it . Quote Link to post

jigsaw 11,866
heres my yoke at 4 yrs old now,hes a serious deterrent, never had to bite anyone but ive no doubt he wouldnt hesitate to do so..anyone know how to get around his fascination with rocks? he picks one he likes and carrys it constantly about the stupid mutt..My daughter takes him jogging and hes her best mate, and no one goes near her..He gives the stare and that does it usually..Id never have another though only for the fact we dont have a whole lot of space for him..Hes out every day and is laid back like you wouldnt believe, but hes a b*****d with the other dogs ,and has done dammage in the past to the hunters... 1 Quote Link to post

I think a better question is what man would be willing to go in and find out for himself if a certain dog ain't tough enough..... spot on, any dog of 70-90lb would wreak a man, forget all this sleeve and padded suite , when a dog bites your hand /arm or leg its very very painful. i had brother that was bit on the hand by our pet dalmation , it was only norm size 24in 60lb not a big dog. the pain that my brother had was like, he said having a door slam shut on your hand, really painful experience , just watch your normal mutt chop on a 2in beef bone, a dog goes through them easy . my big lurcher Buck daft with people/dogs , thank god, because what he can do in the field he wreak any bloke, bloody hell he pulled tomo of his feet Quote Link to post
rippem 455
I agree a 70-80lb could wreck a man. But a dog that hasn't been trained to bite and deal with the stress the man is gonna put on him you don't know how he will respond. Your dog may bite my forearm and I slam him into a door and start to throw knees into his rib cage he very well my cur away..a good trained dog learns to deal with it and keep pushing forward..I train ring sport dogs and protection dogs and I been told by a lot of folks how tuff there dogs are then just shake my clatter stick and they put there tails between there legs. And unless you have a good strong bully bred or a killer, and it bites my arm I'll kill it! I'll give my forearm up and take the bite..I carry a neck knife every were I go..the point I'm trying to make is if you don't train your dog in hidden sleeves or hidden suits or teasing with the flesh you don't know what you have..just because it barks or growls at the fence.. doesn't mean anything 8 Quote Link to post
HPR 1,161
That's true rippem my mate got chased by the police once and they let the dog go on him it bit his bicep made a mess of it but he head locked it and bit it back . It started sreaming then he punched it and slung it over a fence then started fight with coppers . Obviously got sent down but the dog never re attacked . So it's a cut in my eyes . But like you say most prob first time the dogs met someone who really dosent give a f**k . 1 Quote Link to post
Treehands. 1,379
Your starting to sound like Donald trump ,full of self belief. Whilst your doing your best Tarzan impression on my little dog how would you contend with my baseball bat wrapping around your head. As for the neck knife , being a yank and the friendly fire habit you'd probably stab yourself anyway. 6 Quote Link to post
