mattyg 1,862
Mutts live indoors..... Get past the Mrs, I dare ya!!! But I have heard reliable accounts of remote farms where my mate has pulled up to meet the "farmer" to arrange where to check for terrier work and the collie thing was shredding his tyres..... At 10mph... Barmy unsocialised manky nutcases. Matt 4 Quote Link to post

neems 2,406
i think unless I lived right out in the sticks I wouldn't want a human aggressive dog loose in the yard,my lurcher and terrier are just dogs,it wouldn't be worth the risk of an innocent person getting mauled, postman, neighbours, older kids kicking footballs over the fence etc I'd much rather loose all my dogs than have that on my conscience. For me,I'd have it inside and it can let me know if someone's outside and if I decide whoever's out there needs to be collared I'll release the hell hound. 6 Quote Link to post
BGD 6,436
never had a guard dog because i got nothing to pinch but if people are worried about a guard eating poisoned meat, can't you train them not to eat anything from the floor or whatever unless it's in there bowl.? When I kept guard dogs loose in my yard they were always trained never to take any food unless it was in their bowl and I had given them the release command, they wouldn't even touch bones around the yard unless I handed them to them. I think folk overestimate how easy it is to poison a real decent guard dog, food is the last thing they're thinking about when there's strangers around the fence... 1 Quote Link to post
fox digger 1,086
I've a black Shepard bitch and she's a demon to guard. After being paid a couple of visits and dogs lifted I said I'd have to give one a try. Up until 24 months she was worse than useless, if she hadn't shown so much enthusiasm for hunting she would have been long gone. From walking with the rest of the crew everyday she became a very clever bittch to hunt and surprised a few that saw her out on strolls!! Once she hit 24 months the penny dropped and a mouse wouldn't move in the yard without her knowing. I wouldn't fancy being a stranger facing her!! (Or a fox for that matter)!! Lol s909 6 Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
I have a Caucasian shepherd she is only 9 months and one he'll of a guard dog NOW, there's a guard dog. The only thing I don't like about them is that they look like a big teddy bear and someone innocently might approach one. They should have a public health warning hanging on a sign around their neck, LOL. 1 Quote Link to post
