i would like to think that middleton is still breads some good workers ,but iff the only people who buy's them ,shows them what chance have they got as a working line ? mony talks in the working terrier field ,these days ,and iff you had a name for your selfe,when men used to go out and work thier dogs you can bet these same men are now selling them as show dogs. names are nothing :no: only the show people and boys who dont know thier dick from thier wrist would buy a pup off the top (as been) terrier men these days. some off the best terrier men in the country,so they say will borrow,beg and buy workers at the mo ,and all because they cant breed anything of any value them'selves. and yet these men are the ones who have tried to carry on the old line's ,good they may have been once's ,but like all good things they all come to a end.

so like i always say ;) some of the best dogs you will get are from the back yard ,boys who do thier bit week in week out ,and yet are not known to anyone :no: only close friends :yes:

Quick shampoo and set then sell it as a Middleton bred :laugh::laugh:

Facking Marvellous :big_boss::toast:

if you spoke to gary he would tell you himself his dogs are now only show stuff. but remember he has probably done hell of a lot more genuine terrier work than most people on here. dont tell me that any one of you would not sell a terrier for a grand if you could cos i certainly would. if you want a smart lakeland then you go to gary, a bit big now for most places but most will work. had one in the nineties of his old dog rex that won best lakeland at yorkshire show and was described by ken gould as the best working lakeland in the country at the time as he dug with me many times here and in ireland. gould, middleton and nuttall did not get a name for nothing and they may be old men now but saw terrier work that we will never see again!

Hello PB, could i trouble you for a pic of the dog Rex...if you have one handy.

I have a show dog out of a later Rex from Garys breeding, i would'nt take take $10 mill for it.

Here's a pic of my dog Toby out of Middleton's Nugget, taken about 1982. Dug and bolted many foxes with him before I sold him due to marital problems.

Anyone who was about at the time will tell you that he bred sonme of the best Lakeys in the North.

As well as lookers these dogs worked and well too. Like all breeders not every dog made the grade in either field but from personal experience the majority of the ones we knew were top notch.

Sorry about the quality of the pic, scanned from a 25 year old polaroid!
