I don`t post on them as I find the fine art of air gun hunting much more satisfying and "testing". Shooting pigeons on growing crops is one of the deadliest methods of control but you haven`t a bloody clue have you? We see pigeons going into growing crops and laying large flattened areas where they land forever and a day ( no doubt you`ll disagree). We look hard and long for these areas where the tracks from the tractor sprayers intercept the flattened crops/ feeding areas. Simply lay some dead pigeons, on cradles, in the flattened crop/ feeding area and lay in wait( prone usually) in the tyre track with some flattened crop over your back as concealment. I would never attempt this method with the likes of a TX springer but the likes of a HW 100 off a bipod is the absolute business, "they rock". I jest you not fella when I say an air rifle can trump a shotgun ( dependant on circumstance) and there must be many a lad on here that would agree. I mean you no disrespect but I am bored shitless with your " get Mark Williams" regime as are others. Stop talking and start walking the walk ! - Post some photos of your exploits, - we don`t bite ( normally) Telling lads on here how to suck eggs doesn`t work. Now " run along" and leave us all alone. If shooting pigeons over crops with an air rifle is so deadly why do 99.999%, well everybody except you, use shotguns? Perhaps because you are talking out of you arris - again 2 Link to post

In the very first post, be the tail your dog is chasing ? Put in context, not the edited version; "I wondered if you might allow a few days decoying to me, I only use precision air rifles, no noise. A typical farmer usually replies with "more noise the better" - keeps the buggers away! I always reply, yes I can understand that but you shoot a lot more pigeon when they have no idea you are there." Intimation that using air rifles would enable you to shoot a lot more pigeons. That is what you meant. Now let us examine your latest comical suggestion: "Shooting pigeons on growing crops is one of the deadliest methods of control but you haven`t a bloody clue have you? We see pigeons going into growing crops and laying large flattened areas where they land forever and a day ( no doubt you`ll disagree). We look hard and long for these areas where the tracks from the tractor sprayers intercept the flattened crops/ feeding areas. I would never attempt this method with the likes of a TX springer but the likes of a HW 100 off a bipod is the absolute business, "they rock"." 1. Shooting from prone down a wheeling gives you a very narrow field of view. 2. You may have to wait a long time for a pigeon to land or walk into this narrow field of view. 3. Pigeons are notoriously shy of decoys. Quite often they won't settle and fly off after a few seconds. 4. If you do shoot a pigeon you would have to pick it immediately or you would not get another pigeon to land in that area. 5. There doesn't seem to be provision for a dog. Now, let me tell you about how I shot just short of 200 pigeons in three short sessions on laid wheat. 1. Put up a fishing brolly in a wheeling, tilted to the back and covered with a camo' mesh. (Yes it is green, but the pigeons don't mind) 2. Sit in a low fishing chair with the dog at the back of the chair out of sight. 3. Place three of four floaters around the edge of the laid wheat and two angels in the middle. 4. Shoot the pigeons as the fly in using a shotgun, aiming to drop the pigeons into standing wheat. 5. Use the dog to retrieve any that land in the laid wheat. Simples! Link to post

walshie 2,804
It does seem nonsensical to me to suggest that you can shoot more pigeons with an airgun than you can with a shotgun, but for god's sake can't you have a discussion about the pros and cons without the name-calling? Not everyone with a different opinion to you is "wrong." Link to post
mark williams 7,563
Well I got as far as (Put in context) and I`d read enough. To be honest lads, "i cant be bothered with him" I do believe that an air rifle will trump a shotgun under certain circumstances.- that`s just my opinion, right or wrong.- " who cares" I`ve had many a fantastic day on pigeon with air rifles and with shotguns but if I came across wrongly by saying " you can shoot a lot more pigeon if they have no idea you are there " stands with me, just my opinion again, - who cares ?( sniping feeding pigeons in my areas) I did not say I can shoot more pigeons with an air rifle than a shotgun over decoys - I can under "differing circumstances though" and have done ! - If you don't agree - then that`s fine by me. Is that the OJ Simpson trial over now ? Link to post
tomburras 2,730
Chill out man lol its only a forum where shared opinions are all part of the idea!Agreed airguns can be a better tool at times - like ferel pigeons in barns for example. All that matters is you enjoy yourself with whatever gun you use wich you clearly do so great and respect you chose that.I don't think the pigeons have any idea I'm there tho when there's 32g of 6,s flying towards them while sat in my hide. Some of my most enjoyable pigeon decoy memories where in a flipped upside down potatoe transport box with a plank kicked out of the front of it to shoot from with my tx200 wich was the 1st thing I baught with the wage from my first job in 2001 and had a few bags of 5 - 10 pigeons But after getting my sgc also in 2001 had a few 100+ bags of pigeons out of the very same box while been a beginner to shotgun shooting back then too. This is just an example how effective they are even to a beginner.Anyway roll on harvest and get knocking on them doors when winter cerials are drilled and poking through vulnerable and happy shooting!!!P's if you really want to get good bags of rabbits in winter leave the air guns and get some ferrets! 2 Link to post
mark williams 7,563
Agreed Tom, Woodies work just as well with the rabbits too. I freeze and use them for both rabbit and pigeon on cradles. I find an AA Field 8.4 g just as effective as 32g of 6`s and the rest of the village don't know I`m out as well as mr pigeon. " only saying like" atb 1 Link to post
