A Good Time To Gain Permission, Just Ask, The Right Way.

no farms plant crops round our way any more mark ,its all cows n sheep :wallbash:

and any land without cows or sheep turns into a building site... not bad for my living but losing some good shooting!

got rabbits running round the plots were building

Make the best of it. Sheep farms offer opportunities for air rifle shooting and also trapping in season to reduce the corvid numbers. Any farmer with a barn will probably have rats and / or feral pigeons especially if they keep feedstuffs in it for winter feeding. Every cloud and all that ;)

For the lads short of a permission, or maybe new and struggling, harvest times are a really good time to gain a permission. Crops this time of year are usually under pressure from Wood

NOW NOW BOYS LETS JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT OR THIS THREAD WILL GET LOCKED BY ONE OF THE MODS   YOU BOTH HAVE SOME GOOD POINTS   BUT LETS CALL IT A DAY ON THE BICKERING   ATVBMAC

Good advice Mark, I would just like to add a small caveat, a lot of farmers, especially round my way, still regard air rifles as toys (possibly due to their own "toys" they played about with as lads)

It depends on the type of farm.

Grass and arable - Now is a bad time as too long to see anything. Poor results and little evidence to prove your worth to the farmer.

Cows, sheep and horses - probably a good time all year round. Rabbits make holes that livestock fall down - ankles, not the hole animal before anyone starts (twats)

Poultry/fowl - it depends. Summer, everything is in bloom, loads of food around, so you don't see as many rats. Some birds are late at sprogging, so lose out to rats and magpies - so opportunities here.

Nurseries - Spring and Summer are your rabbit opportunities. Maybe a harsh Winter will drawn them in too. Compost areas will draw rats in in Winter especially.

If you are already in with a farmer, you are not really effected. If you are starting out, I would say Spring is your target season.

Not everyone feels the need to take photos to prove themselves. Especially photos taken in their own back garden (must be a hell of a rabbit problem in yours). Nor do people feel the need to post photos of paper targets as everyone knows what modern air rifles are like especially when shots are taken with the rifle rested and only the more successful efforts recorded.

Photos on their own mean nothing. It is the words and advice posted that reveal whether you know what you are talking about, or not in your case. I'd sussed you as a Walt a long time ago. But your first post on this thread will confirm it to all ;)

So you convince a farmer that you can better protect his crops with your air rifle than those noisy shotgun decoyers can. And at the end of the day you proudly lay out your bag of three woodies to prove it.

Anyone else see a flaw in this? :whistling:

Im a self confessed sado ive loads of pics of rabbits in my back garden seriously though like today i got in a 6am im just up trying to get a cuppa and theres a back of rabbits to processes and a car to unload and batterys to put on charge . Then they will get there picture taking in the back garden and usually emailed to a factor or estate manager . but its starting to feel like the same old i wonder if i sent them a old picture would they relize ? and does gutting rabbits at this time of year smell worse than doing it after a days ferreting in the winter ?.

oops again,

Regards,

Walt

Have you any pictures by the way ?

I've got no pictures. Don't need any. As I said before; it is in what you post that lets people know whether you know your stuff. Things like saying that an air rifle shooter can clear vermin off crops better than someone with a shotgun, or that his time of year is good for air rifle shooting over crops doesn't really do you any favours.

It is noticeable as well that you went back to June of last year to show a decent bag of woodies. As they say; every picture tells a story ;)

Walk the walk fella and stop talking so much, show the lads some of your "real life forays" - pictures make things much more believable you know.

Its just him reverting to type. He can't contest the argument so he always reverts to name calling. He did the same with the TX .v. PS thread and others too. Didn't even have the balls to admit he was wrong or apologise for the name calling.
