Is there anyone on here with contacts in NZ? I am going on a trip for 5 weeks in Nov and want to do as much fishing and hunting as I can. I've booked a guide for a few days pig hunting but any other options or advice would be great to hear. Cheers

Flying into south island. I've seen his videos and the guy I'm booked with for the pig hunting is in the same area. There's three of us going and we'll have a car so can move about. There are lots of outfitters and one of the guys has family out there but it's always good to have options. It's more local knowledge I'm after. Also happy to swap days out if anyone from there is likely to be over here at any point

if you go pig hunting, you be expected to carry the pig back by your self, they carry them across there shoulders. ok if 50 kl pig but any heavier you will feckin sweat lol up /down mountains lol . its a great country my mates sister moved out there 20 years ago , he been over couple times to visit her and loved it (fishing) didnt do any pig hunting when he was there , but was told all the info about, they use any type dog as long as it can find and got guts, popular x was boxer x labs for pig hunting, but any type dog they will use as above .

I spent a year there in the late 80's so any info I have could be well and truly outdated, but in the South I do remember some great fishing on rivers Waikaia, Greenstone, Motueka and Glenorchy and lakes Te Anau, Wanaka, Wakatipi and Manapouri. Loads more that I can't remember, I'm afraid. Also had a blast pig hunting - biggest adrenalin rush ever when the holders are doing their job and you're going in with a knife. Just exercise a little caution - I was young and foolish at the time and had a couple of potentially very dangerous encounters that could have easily gone wrong

My best advice would be to talk as much as possible to the locals once you get there. Get into the rural areas and go into the nearest pub and just start chatting. You'll soon find all sorts of doors will open and you won't need to be paying for guides.

Hope you have a great trip - I'm green with envy....

Thanks, that's pretty much the plan. I'm taking camping gear and a fly rod and hoping to meet some friendly locals. I'm trying to sign up to their version of THL and see how that goes
