galloway415@gmail.com 12
There are a lot that are big but there crosses and there to big to go to ground and the one that do the crosses don't hunt they just sell them. The ones that really like to hunt need a Spannable dog or there not doing ground work or real barn work..raccoons pancake out so there sets are small and ground hogs sets are small also. The raccoon when winter comes and they bed down in the hay and straw they squeeze through the cracks and go down into the pile. So even in the barns you need a Spannable dog. And the fox over here there chest are not wide there spannable also so there sets are pretty small for the most part..we have badger but I haven't Ben lucky enough to locate one so I couldn't say what there sets would look like. But I would awesome small and shaped like a catfish mouth.. Some pretty bold statements there .."the ones that do crosses dont hunt they just sell them " ? Spanable is a relaitive term , kinda depends on how big your hands are . i hunted an 18-20 lb dog barley spanable in the midwest with good results to me its about want ..and want to find ..and fit ..and stay.. This is a big country with diverse terrain & climates , this affects the differences of game in a given region , and theyre habitat , where they nest , breed etc...so with that being said ..it aint one size fits all , different strokes...what you talkin bout Willis !!! rippem 455
Here in the states they need to be Spannable if not there not going to ground. And most of the pit/staff cross's are to big to go to ground. I'm sure there are exceptions but that's it. And I don't care how much it wants it if it can't fit it can't fit..and also a 18 pound dog could still be spannable.. Quote Link to post
galloway415@gmail.com 12
I dont know if you read what i posted , i am in the states and have hunted terriers in 4 different states now over the past 12 years and have plans for more. I dont agree with many of your statements , and feel like your putting mis information out there ..and thats fine , being that this is a place for constructive discussion , i would agree to disagree. rippem 455
So what are you saying that they don't need to be spannable? You say I'm putting out misleading information, please tell me what misleading info I'm putting out..and if you disagree that they have to be spannable what are you hunting? Sure isn't ground hog or fox or coon. Unless it's above ground. Unless your in a weird spot were the holes are big. Quote Link to post
Dead Eyes 681
Why would a fox hole be smaller in America for the same species? Genuine question 1 Quote Link to post
galloway415@gmail.com 12
I believe in my prior posts I made the points which i disagree with and believe to be mis information . Bottom line is your not going to change my mind , and i doubt i will change yours , so why beat a dead horse ? and i dont know why a fox hole or any others would be different cross the pond , i cant say from personal experience but i have heard fox are larger there (Europe) . I can say in the states , there are such great degrees of difference in climate terrain etc. that the same species can be found in many different habitats within the earth , different animals burrow throughout the country , those abandoned burrows are occupied by many different animals. rippem 455
I'm notrying saying anything about the size of there fox versus ours. I don't know about there's never been there but do know about what is over here. Our fox, ground hog sets are small and you need a spannable dog. Are there exceptions? Of course.bUT for the most part we need spannable dog for our terrain. Even a big coon will squeeze down a tight small hole. I have a lot of spots to go hunt if your around ILL, let me know you can show me different. And afterwards wife and I will tale you out for a good time..the reason why I started this post is because I see some folks have what they call pats but look like staffy bulls and they would not do good over hear and was wondering why they have big dogs..I was just curious if the sets are bigger.anytime you wanna go hit some new ground let me know your more then welcome..
