Advice About In Season Jill In With Hobs Please.

Recommended Posts

Right so I got one of my hobs vasectomised. I put him in with one of my two jills the other one went with my other complete hob (she went on to have a litter of 9 so a few spare if anyone wants to PM me ready in a month).

Back to the original problem..this took the jill out of season and not pregnant,as the other was about to give birth I moved her out into the hob cage. This was fine but I have just noticed she has come back into season. For how long I'm not sure but can't be long. I have now removed her.

My question is what are the chances she's pregnant? I am pretty hands on with them and have not noticed any mating behaviour. Could it be that she has only just come in and is not 'receptive' yet? Should I take her down the vet for a jab just in case? How long after can that work as a morning after? Sory lots of questions.

I guess if I leave her on her own for a week or so and she stays in season it means she isn't pregnant so that would be good but too late to do anything about it.

Any help much appreciated.

How long ago was the vac job put over the Jill mate? Generally what will happen is that the Jill will go into what is called a phantom pregnancy, she will look pregnant she will shed her fur build a nest etc... But the end result bring no kits. After this happens depending on how early/late in the season generally they come back into heat and the process will need to be repeated again. As for the Jill jab it basically has the same effect with the same results, I would give her a couple of days and if she stays in season then put the job back over her but leave them together for a bit longer, be careful not to leave her too long though because he will be trying to mate with her quite often and it can become tireing for them both. Hope that helps bud all the best ?

Thanks SS. She has been showing signs of fantom pregnancy. Tugging the lad around by thier necks. Had a good look tonight at her and she seems to be more in season than yesterday so hopefully she was not covered. I'll give it a week and put the V hob in with her. Hopefully she'll still be full in season!
