Is there different types of breaks or are some ribs worse to break ? I had a couple of broken ribs and it was painful for a couple of weeks but nothing like what has been mentioned on here ,and before anyone accuses me of being all Socks about it ,I'm not the least macho and I have a very low pain threshold .

That's it Johnny,,you tell him something positive,,,pneumonia,,,lol

In Johnnys case it was called Gnomeonia....?

Start a thread about broken ribs in hope that there's some kind of relief from it but as you've found there isn't. Broken ribs are that bad just looking at a LOL is painful.

i have broken ribs on three occasions, twice when i was a stupid lad fightin g (got stamped on once, and got beaten by two blokes with barstools once) and the third time i had an argument with a horse. i found cool water was very helpful floating about in the swimming pool or even lying in the bath. and for fecks sake DO NOT SNEEZE! you will think you have been shot! give it a month and you will be past the worst of it.

The floating ribs at the bottom you can break without really knowing it but normally the higher up you go the more painful it gets......along the bone itself the closer to the sternum or the spine where the bones thicken out the longer healing will take......most of the pain is not from the break itself but all the connecting tissue and muscle etc

Ive broken a number of ribs myself............................and had some of my own broken as well .

I got 2 broken quite high up and close to the sternum too (I can still feel the calcified parts) and I didn't realise at the time.

It was sore for while but got better in about 4 weeks.

I must just be hard as fcuk :whistling:

Must be more to it I think, but if the pain's unbearable there's no shame in going back to the doctors and getting the strongest pain relief they'll give, especially if it effects your breathing.

Broken ribs are a bitch. I'd rather have a broken leg than break any ribs ever again.

Although not recommended, I did discover that a shit load of Southern Comfort and pain killers helped me sleep one night.
