Kay 3,709
Dunno about how much food he needs but what a lovely dog
skycat 6,174
Simple: feed him as much as he needs to stay in good condition. I generally feed 2 meals a day until a pup is 12 months old. If you can just feel his ribs (OK I know you won't be able to SEE them under that coat) but if he was smooth coated you should be able to see the last 2 or 3 ribs, ditto for his pin bones and he's got loads of energy and doesn't sh*t soft sloppy stools then your'e probably about right. Generally, if you feed too much biscuit/cereals a dog will get a bit squitty as they don't digest that sort of stuff as well as animal protein. He looks fine from the photo, but I'd never offer a judgement from just looking at a pic. I never weigh my dogs but feel their backs and ribs every day: if they feel like they are a bit bony I feed them a bit more for a few days, and vice versa if they feel a bit podgy. Exactly, a thin layer of fat over the ribs is perfect. Adjust the amount accordingly. Also make sure that it get enough bone meal and vegatables, for calcium.
sandymere 8,263
As above would just add remember to ajust over time to alow for increase / decrease in exercise, age, illness etc. You'll soon get your eye in and know at a glance if he's right.
spike 0
The advice I was given was 2-3% of bodyweight each day. Seems to work for my dog.

nealey 0
No thats one good thing he don't yap, he's had a couple of mixy rabbits but he's a sod for retreiving live stuff, he's ok with dummy's ect. I think he will come good, he still seems very puppyish at the moment.
