Tiercel 6,986
I was brought up in the Welsh valleys, where you could put a donkey in for labour ( and they frequently did ) and it would win. As I grew older I could see that socialism was not really working. As stated by nicepix earlier the problem with socialism is people and their greed, the ideal is brilliant, but the reality is something completely different. Capitalism is the only system that really works for this country and most of the world if the truth be told. But I cannot forget the principles of socialism where the weak, old and needy are cared for. When I see ex soldiers with problems living on the streets because they have been abandoned by the very people who caused the problems in the first place, it makes me very angry. When I see people losing their home because capitalistic forces told them they could afford the repayments, only for them to lose their jobs because the firm they worked for was relocated to earn the shareholders more dividends, that makes me angry. Despite capitalism being the only system that really works it has it's faults exactly the same as socialism, people and greed. To my mind the people who extract dividends out of other peoples misery are no better than the dole scrounger. Is it time for a capitalistic party that cares for the less fortunate instead of using them and then discarding them like a used piece of toilet paper? Sorry for the rant. Born Hunter 17,763
The UK hasn't a clue what libertarianism is... Len, you're talking about social liberalism. I'd LOVE one, but it's not the politics of the British, by nature were raving authoritarians! We've taken a big step in the direction of freedom and the first thing a lot of folks can think to do is start banning stuff! Greens pretending to be for freedom then want to restrict people's lives
Tiercel 6,986
It's funny how one of the biggest oximorons has not posted on this thread? He has perhaps one of the biggest portfolios of all the members of THL yet still proports to support socialist principles. Odd really? TC
BGD 6,436
Sounds like you're describing a sort of Nordic style social democratic party. More real choice in the democratic system is always a good thing but we have to ask can it work under the current electoral system... Who exactly is going to vote for this ? What I would say is that anybody who signs up for the armed forces should after a certain amount of service be guaranteed housing , social care and some sort of pension TC I was brought up in the Welsh valleys, where you could put a donkey in for labour ( and they frequently did ) and it would win.
