I respect your opinion matey, but don't necessarily agree with it, though I imagine many of my countrymen would. I think that the conservation models employed by your fine nation and the likes of the southern African nations etc which are based partly on trophy hunting are fantastic and have been very positive for the hunted animal populations and more generally the environment.

 

That said there is something suspect about folks that only value the physical trophy. Me, I'm a hunter deep in my dna, I hunt to forfill that instinct. Some of the greatest hunts can be for the most mundane of trophies, if even considered as such.

 

Given the chance I would hunt antelope in Tanzania, boar in Germany, stags in Scottish hills, tahr in New Zealand and bear, wolf and mountain sheep in Alaska just off the top of my head. All trophies, but primarily all phenominal experiences.

I agree with you the strongest shouldn't be killed they should be admired and left to produce the best.

 

The only hunting that should be allowed is by using a dog and dog only, not a fecking rifle anyone can shoot something stood in front of them

I did shoot but gave up as didn't really enjoy it. Much prefer the dogs

Thats a well written piece and i think you managed to keep your point without going all preachy,some trophy hunting is kind of wrong,like giraffe from 300 yards off the back of a land rover with a high powered rifle,i agree,also the point of taking the old strong animals makes sense but each case,or hunt needs to be taken on its own merit and the effects or reasons can go much deeper than we see or know,when a hunter pays 30000 to hunt an elephant it helps the people and they get the meat,so its a deep argument and i dont think it will be settled on thl!!

Look in the big game hunting section at the louie theroux documentary,in africa in african peoples words,kind of get another perspective...

As born hunter said,i dont think a lot of these hunts are about the trophy,thats just a name tag to stick on them,its more about the whole experience rather than the kill.

This coming wednesday at 9pm on Channel 4 anprogram called The women who kill lions about the increasing number of women getting into big game hunting,cameras follow 2 women who go hunting on the dark continent,one with a rifle one with a bow,both are after a lion,one of the clips i saw showed inside one of the ladies houses,look at the size of the grizzly she shot!
