comanche 3,059
With my oldest Grand-son Denis not so steathily leading the way we approached our chosen pool on the local mill-stream full of hope. You can imagine our disappointment when we spotted two bedraggled boys perched on the bank peering into the water. They weren't fishing. Apparently they had been in engaged in a bout of bicycle brinkmanship. One had managed to launch his machine off a high bank into the stream and despite wading chest deep had been unable to find the thing let alone retrieve it. So it was off with the shoes, roll my shorts-up and enter the fray . It took about five seconds to locate and retrieve the submerged cycle in about four feet of water and hook it out with the landing net. The fishing had probably been wrecked but I had to see the funny side especially when one of the lads informed me as I felt the water lapping at my "bits" that the bike was blue . Oh, of course that made all the difference ;if I'd hauled up a red one I wasn't exactly going to throw it back was I?. Despite the drama we put in half an hour with the rods, during which I had a little hybrid ,a roach and a perch and Den scored big with a weenie little chub that had probably been strangled into submission by his worm. We then shifted operations upstream about half a mile and tucked ourselves under a bridge . This proved to be a good move as within minutes I managed a decent eel which had to be netted twice after it,rather embarrasingly found the only hole in my landing net on the first attempt . Now, normally young Den is the angling superstar and on numerous occasions I've light-heartedly told him that unless he stops out-fishing me I'll not take him again. With his score standing at one baby chub I could see no threat to my pole position by letting him strike at the next bob of my float which resulted in him landing a chunky perch. Fast approaching last-cast time Den's own float dipped and he found himself into something that put a decent bend in his Poundland rod and bang went my pretensions of angling superiority when I netted a lovely tench for him. I did manage another eel but once more I'd been out-performed by a ten year-old! Edited June 19, 2016 by comanche 6 Quote Link to post

She loves coming fishing, shooting and even comes and endures watching City with me Its great to see the way they enjoy every fish rather than getting all grumpy if they don't get a chosen species or a PB like a lot of grown-ups. Last season Den's Dad and I took him to a day-ticket place and he landed one of the rare carp in the place. At 13lb the owner said he thought it was the biggest that had been caught! And it wasn't luck.He watched that fish hoovering up maggots in his swim, saw his float move countless times, sat motionless like a pro and timed his strike perfectly to add another notch to his Poundland rod. Yet he is still happy to catch tiddlers with me down the mill-stream. Edited June 19, 2016 by comanche 1 Quote Link to post
Bunnyblatter 1,012
Yes my daughter is exactly the same. She loves bagging small roach on the local canal or decent sized fish on the ponds. I think it's just the anticipation of what's going to be on the end of the line once the float dips under the water. Tight lines mate and I think you e got the young un hooked if you pardon the pun lol 1 Quote Link to post
