Wheres The Bunnies?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Been asked to rid the grounds of a big country mansion of rabbits. They were everywhere.Ive never done any ferreting in summer before but it's been Going well. Killed over a hundred in the last five weeks. The bloke who lives there is well happy. Trouble is there seems to be 5 that keep appearing right on the front lawn we just can't get. We know every hole and ran the ferrets through today and they were all empty even though one or two of the holes we'd filled in have been opened up. When we turned up this morning and saw the five, they ran towards the holes all except one which was intent on running round us to get behind us. Do you think the five we can't get are coming from further afield and are running past the reopened holes to get to a warren much further away? Would rabbits risk leaving their warrens to travel a fair distance in daylight to eat the nice mown grass? Anyone got any ideas?

I was told rabbit wouldn't travel more than 30 yards from there burrow so they could get back quickly to safety but thats rubbish some rabbits travel good distances , take it you dont have a marking dog ? think out side the box rabbits just dont live down holes any surface cover ? ive even bolted them from trees

If they're not in the warren they've run towards they've obviously gone elsewhere. Try putting longnets/stopnets across any gaps, gates etc further back before you go anywhere near the lawn. And if you don't have one, see if you can get onto the ground with someone who's got a good busher - there's a good chance there'll be some lying up in flower borders/patches of cover etc and a good busher will find them...
