That's a cracking find. Before met my missus and had kids my intention was to buy somewhere in the south of France like that to up over the years before I could move over. Then the above happened and it turned from a plan into a fantasy. No regrets though as I love my kids dearly.

what a place, makes you wonder if the value of houses over there will rocket soon too?

Doubt it. The market is flooded with houses for sale and there are hardly any buyers.

How is that ? Plenty of people coming into the country ?! ? Are all the native French selling up and going elsewhere ?

There is a big change in the type of houses French people want to live in. The old French houses remain empty when the old folk die or go into care homes. Their families don't want to live in the old house and prefer newer builds. Also there are less English buyers compared to sellers. A lot of Brits who came here in there 50's and 60's ten or fifteen years ago are looking to sell up and move back for health or family issues but they are stuck because there are so many houses on the market and they often have a large negative equity.

Our house was up for just less than €180,000. We got it for less than €110,000 including sales taxes and fees. Some friends of ours fell in love with a property that was priced at €450,000 but their budget only went to €300,000. I suggested that they offer something between half and two-thirds and they got is for just over €275,000. Our neighbours have bought a perfectly sound, three story village house for €20,000. They will probably get it fettled for less than €10,000 and have a three bedroom house with loads of character. Loads of bargains if you are prepared to look for them and be cheeky with your bids.
