Well you can't get away from the thin skin and shit coat problem it effects most whippets and in the middle of winter when the snow is down and it's minus degrees in the wind then it becomes a problem ... Robustness ... I've had dogs take bangs and and bumps including hitting a tree stump chest first at full speed which would have killed a whippet ... They lack wind when they are given run after run after run on the lamp ... Due to size they are limited to what and where they can work ... Rough ground can damage their feet pretty quickly ... And so on and so on ... Now I know that the whippet lovers will have a come back for these points but each to their own .......

I think the problem with whippets is that there are a lot of pet/show breeders out there which produce dogs what aren't worth a wank.

 

Same for the plummers and many other types.

 

If the best working stock were bred from and only the working stock then there would be lots of good ones about. Unfortunately it's the shit what gets bred from and churned out for decent money.

 

So ultimately it's these what the lads are seeing in the field and basing their opinions on.

 

I've no doubt there are decent whippets out there that would match or surpass a small lurcher in the field. But the majority won't and it's a shame really.
