Gaz_1989 9,539
Lol,type healthy meals for under a fiver into a search engine and there's loads.atb dc Just done that for a laugh. Sausage casserole and fish and chips ??? I was talking proper nutrition mate. Fresh protein source, low GI carbs, mono and polyunsaturated fats, fibre, leafy greens with plenty of vitamins and minerals. And that needs to be varied. Every day. Not just a handful of meals what you keep rotating. There's healthy eating and there's healthy eating. It's rediculously expensive to eat healthy compared to eating junk food and that's the point I'm making.

There are hundreds of lads on here that were brought up in families with very little money, they were fed simple meat and two veg, stews etc and I bet they looked a darn site better as kids than the doughy pasty faced kids I see about these days. Go back a couple of generations and they were working at 14 and often going off to war a couple of years later. The human race has spent most of it's history scraping by without worrying about low GI carbs and mono and polyunsaturated fats. We are here to prove it. Women knew how cook and were not too lazy to learn either, making stuff with leftovers etc. Getting by with little money is not a modern day phenomenon, just these days people are too ignorant and lazy to make the most of what they have. There is a middle ground between McDonald's and pulses, olive oil and organic produce. I am sure many on here raise healthy kids taking a middle ground, just living within their means, as many generations have done before them.

Big difference is women of that generation very rarely went out to work. Now practically every family is a "two income household" because it's the only way to keep your head above water. Their whole job was cooking and looking after the house/kids, these days you've got both parents working all the hours God sends can you really blame them for going for the easy option when they get in and the kids are wanting fed? Obviously you've got the ones on benefits etc that still feed the kids absolute shite and they've got no excuse really but there's always been lazy b*****ds dragging kids up all through history. Daniel cain 47,086
What's wrong with sausage casserole? Lol,I think if folk find food expensive then you got a few options. Give up the fags and booze, get rid of your latest must have gadgets etc, spend a little less on themselves, grow your own fruit and veg. Gaz I pay a mortgage, run 2 vehicles my 2 eldest go kickboxing, swimming twice a week -I pay for the upkeep on a horse for the wife and pony for daughter, feed 5 dogs,6 ferrets,my kids want for nothing or the wife.I'm the only one working.the point I'm making is some folk are just plain selfish and only think of themselves gaz-most see kids as a meal ticket/free cash from the goverment.I wonder how many family's sit dwn at a table and eat together?without a TV on,and no mobile phones? Lol not f***ing many these days-feed them shite and chuck em infront of the telly seems the way.atb dc

But surely it's still okay for me to point out that's it's expensive? I aren't saying I can't afford to eat them foods. I'm just making an observation.

You're kind of going off topic I think but women back then didn't work and were taught all about cooking balanced meals by their mothers before them. Back then it WAS cheaper to go out and purchase meat and veg. Chocolate and crisps were a rare treat. My dad has told me stories about once a fortnight his dad would come back with 4 mars bars for the boys as a treat. That's simply not the case now.

Spot on ;-) But gaz is right, to feed top varied quality food all the time is very costly..........I know I often try, but mixing it up with the middle ground is perfectly acceptable & like you say...no harm to most. I've got a niece with two young kiddies & they eat shite, she's a single mum, but it's pure fcuking laziness with her........to concerned with social media :-(

walshie 2,804
I agree with kids eating healthily but do the authorities really need to ban packed lunches in case they aren't healthy? What's going to be next? Random visits to the kid's houses to see what they have for tea? Parents these days take little enough responsibility without having yet another duty taken off their hands. Just my opinion of course.
