Excellent read Meerihunter and some great hounds :clapper:

I think the true Afghan has been overlooked a lot in this country and could have a lot to offer one of the toughest working dogs i ever had the pleasure of knowing was an afghan cross.

For three years he was top dog of the free festival sites no mean feat and the amount of game mainly vennison and hare he took helped feed a small army as it were the dog was probably the gamest ive ever encountered and living rough a dead ringer for the native dogs he was dreaded like them earning him the name Rasta.

I agree and its a real shame no one saw fit to keep Afghans hunting and coursing from when they first came into the country. Just up the road here there is a lady with some lovely dogs and when they are young before the coat grows too long you can seen what a good shape they have and feet, even now after nearly 100yr of show breeding they still have the feet for the job. I have been tempted for a number of years to try a cross with my Saluki bitch to an Afghan to increase substance, give a better seasonal coat. If importing new stock is not an option I may well go this route asuming I can find a suitable Afghan. Someone must have decent hunter out there I know what they dogs are like there is often no stopping them hunter regardless of whether the owner appreciates it or not.

:clapper: another good read cheers meerihunter.

Be interesting to see a saluki x afghan ive seen two saluki x borzois they looked the part but the afghan x would be a better

option and your so right about the owners not needing to be into hunting an old friend had an afghan and it was a beast, it wanted to kill everything so much so he had to walk it on a washing line, otherwise nothing was safe dogs cats whatever a proper fiery sort
