As the title. I have 2 dogs both 16 months old.

1 I trained from a puppy and 1 I rescued at 10 months. The one I rescued was an arse hole at the start and would never come back but started copying my first dog and now he's great, he won't walk 30 yards before he turns back and waits. But now the dog which was good that I had first stays by my side until the last field back to the car to go home and then he's a c##t. He won't come back until he's ready to do what he wants. I've tried putting him on a lead and letting the other one carry on as usual to see if that worked but it didn't. He knows he's done wrong because when he does come back he lays at my feet with his tail between his legs so I give him the benefit of the doubt the next day but he does it again. It's been a week now and he's pissing me off. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

obvious dog has sussed out that playtime /hunting time is over and doesn't want it to end mate next time your out use your usual recall but this time do it a bit earlier [not in the car vicinity as dog has associated car with loss of freedom] praise him up give a little treat whilst back in car and see how that goes -billy

There Mongrels to be honest. The good one now is border terrier mixed with something God only knows. The one playing up is a springador x staffy. He was good as gold until a week ago. If I walk somewhere different or new to him he stays behind my feet literally clips my heels and follows me everywhere.

There's only one way back to the car unfortunately but I could put the lead on earlier next time just worried if I do that will I have to do it earlier and earlier each time until he can't be let off the lead.

I wouldn't mind as much but it's not to do anything particular as such. If there's other dogs about he has no interest in them or people. It's like his doing it now on purpose to piss me off or prove his boss in a way. I will take them out on there own and give that a go tomorrow morning. Thanks for the advice

Try recalling your dog when your away from your car in middle off few fields put the lead on him for few minutes then let him back off again keep doing it and give him a treat. Or you could just buy one them electric shock collars if things keep persisting

I wouldnt use the electric collar properly I don't no how, I would probably make him worse some how. He is very food orientated il go back and try that, thanks. Away from the car in fields like you said he's fine, anywhere new, where there's other dogs or people he's fine he is literally on my toes. Its just this bloody field on the way back to the car before work. It's a rape field with a track, rabbits, deer and pheasants are along here in and out the rape, maybe it's to much temptation for him. Would it make a difference he's got his bollocks and the other one hasn't?

Or his age? Or type of breed? I posted a few months ago he only liked finding pheasants but lately it's anything that moves, deer pheasants or rabbits. He's mum was the springador and they worked her. He tracks and yaps as he's following where they go, he can follow scent and I like that. He marks where things have gone and then barks 2 tell me. This doesn't bother me because he will come back get me and show me where. it's just going back I don't think he ever wants to go back hime lol

I'd say it's his age, he's pushing boundaries trying to get away with dictating when you leave the field which to him is the best place on earth with all the scent to follow etc.

Plenty of recall practice in that field clipping him on then letting him back off after a few minutes and a nice high value treat (pig ear or similar, something that will last a few mins) whenever you put him in the car after a walk will have him sorted I reckon.

When you start out walk a little way then turn back and go to the car. If he doesn't follow or is playing silly beggers continue past the car and keep walking. Only when he has re-joined you do you turn back and go wherever you are intending walking to.

On the way back, don't go straight to the car, but walk past it and continue on until he rejoins you, keep walking a bit longer then turn back to the car.

When you put him back in the car make it an enjoyable experience. Give him something he likes such as a toy or food treat. Chuck the retrieve dummy a few times. Make going back to the car a fun thing, not the end of the day.

Had this with my brittany, as soon as she knew it was carways she would not come near, other than that her recall was great. So, without warning id cut short our training or walk, put a lead on her before the car came in sight walked back to it and load her. Then just drive a field away and take her out for more training/walk/fun. Repeat again. Only took 2 or 3 sessions of this and it was corrected, was a bit frustating when the fault appeared, but was chuffed I rectified it. In her head she associated getting loaded with going somewhere else for more fun.

Edit to say: I did try the walking past the car a few times and she would always severely swerve me and it, no matter what I bribed her with, but what I described above seemed to work in my scenario.
