Bit Of Both??

I've been told to pick between digging dogs and running dogs because it's hard to do both. Just wondered if any of you lot do both I've always had lurchers but now I've got a terrier and after a lurcher. I can't see the problem myself in having both but never done much digging so don't know.

How much spare time do you have ? How much of each do you expect to do?

If I was into digging I'd want atleast 3 dogs or more at anyone time.

I do both not really a problem probably don't dig as much as some lads but the little warriors have there fair share!

I do both I only need 2 terriers and I am out most weeks when the seasons here all depends on how your dog works and the earths you work I see no problem with it but ever one situations different only you know how much time and land you have to work

I used to do both just took it as it came,you don't have to always work the dogs into oblivion.

Unless you have to prove yourself or impress,do as you please even if it means doing both just once a week.

I always had one lurcher and one or two terriers.

If they can't work for what ever reason just do more of the other .

At the min I have 4 days off work a week. I always like to have a few dogs around the place I just don't want to buy some decent dogs and spoil them trying to do to much. I'll see how it goes lol

Sounds like the local terrier man wants to put you off. I've had and done both, and like Roy you don't need to work your dogs 7 days a week. You'll be fine with one decent lurcher and a terrier or 2. To be honest I miss having a terrier about, if you have some decent ground and land then 100% go for it.

The terrier-man is only trying to offer advice socks , of which I think is good advice , working terriers properly and maintaining fitness through your the season is very time consuming , I have a Lurcher , only ever kept 1 at a time but myself and the father keeps terriers and tbh if terriers are being kept and worked properly depending on the amount of dogs then you might just find very little time for a Lurcher, most terrier men keep the lines they have for themselves and hardly ever sell a pup so it's not profit driven and money does not come into it for a decent terrier man , this takes time , patience and a live for what they do , I find people tend to sell lurchers to fuel themselves to which I don't agree but back to the point , I would choose or maybe keep 1 terrier with lurchers or vice versa.

Plenty of lads and lasses doing both and doing both justice,if you enjoy both types of dog work get on with it you can even work both together in some situations lol

As it happens I have kept a few dogs over the years and have managed to work them just fine ... How does the said terrier man know how much time this lad has ... How does he know how much time this lad can dedicate to his dogs ... As for working more than one type of dog thousands of people up and down the country do it day in day out ... Nobody can tell a man how many dogs he should keep or what type of dog ... I have kept lurchers terriers and spaniels at the same time before now and worked them all hard ......

theres no reason can't work both together I very rarely leave the yard with my lurchers with out a terrier in tow bellement and split shovel in my rucksack and a big round nose in the car ! I run 3 lurchers most the time totally depends on land you've got at hand
