WhiteN 15
What's a good catty for a beginner and probably only going to be used for general plinking. Cheers
barrywhite 282
the basic black widow type . The pouch is a bit big the bands are a bit strong for light ammo . They are good to hold with the wrist brace , this stops you hitting your hand and you have to hold the bands square . If you wish to stay with the black widow you can get new bands or make your own with smaller pouch and the correct strength rubber for ammo . this said i have moved to making my own catapults out of ply wood and flat bands . I still have my blackwidow from the 70s I did like it a lot when i first got it . you can get cheap catapults like the old black widows very cheap the newer black widows cost a bit more

Cheers really easy to make your own mate, your get far more out of it plenty stuff to look up on here get you going I would second that, it's quite addictive as well, and lastly you will probably go through a fair few before you find what you want, I probably make around half a dozen before I make a keeper, then there is the choices of tubes V flats, ott v ttf, gangsta hold or hammer grip, left hand or right hand hold and wether you prefer tapers or straights, the list goes on and the only way is to try them all until you find out what suits you, good luck and let us know what you end up with
WhiteN 15
Cheers for all the info, can you cut round tubes down to alter the amount of pull back or it is best to buy different lengths? If I work out how to attach pics I'll try and post what I got!
WhiteN 15
If the pic appears then this is what I have at the minute, see how it goes but thinking already that plastic don't feel great so will look out for a good wooden one and compare the two.
Greyman 28,592
Others may disagree, and admittedly there are lots of better catty,s around but as a starter catty the old wrist rocket type design is a good choice, because it's ambidextrous, and those tubes will last a lot longer than some of the thinner Chinese tubes and much longer than flatlands, you can trim them down to length but do it little at a time as you can always cut more but can't put any back on, I would say have a play with it as it is for a while, and if you like it you can either make or buy one that suits your style, and if it just gets thrown to the back of the cupboard you have,nt lost a lot and it will still be there and workable in a years time, goodluck and keep us informed on your progress

Read a few posts about gamekeeper john failing to deliver in a decent time scale so ordered one from Nicks e-bay site on 23/9/16 and the catapult was in the post by the end of the day
