North Armagh Working Terrier Club Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 5 th June 16 ( Breandan Colemans Show )

Kilvergan Road, Lurgan, Co Armagh, lies in the heart of Apple Country, and is rich in a thriving farming community on the banks of the River Bann. This was the venue for the North Armagh Working Terrier Club ( Breandan Colemans Show ) Sunday the 5th June 15.

We arrived in the massive 15 Acre field around 10.30am, with all parking spaces filling up fast. By show time the venue had overflowed with dogs, trailers and families. The heavens had turned off its sprinkling system, and chased the sun out in abundance.

Tracy Gill was out in strength rubbing sun cream into Nigel Quinns back all day. We all know Nigel was enjoying it. We had some craic there. My sides are still sore from laughing. That’s why I love dog shows. They offer me loyality, companionship and allow my inner self to enter into another world, if only for a day.

Graham Fyffe and Darren Moore put on a spectacular show of Ferrett Showing and Ferrett Racing. These little crawley things always take over the crowd. Sundays show was no different, with Ernie Mc Cann as an excellent Ferrett Judge, all credit goes to Graham and Darren for another days top class entertainment with these little animals.

The show, along with the good weather, attracted a very large crowd. Canine folk travelled from North and South of the border, just to be at this Working Dog Show, and they were certainly not disappointed.

Kevin Maguire travelled from Meath, and Michael Mc Grath travelled from Carlow. Ciaran Mc Evoy from Lurgan was there with Scooby and Bouncer. These people are all true Country Sportsmen at heart, who show their canine friends in the summer and work with them in the field in winter.

A bouncy castle was provided on site for the little people. The sound of laughter coming from that area told its own story, with loads of room for the children to play safely, and near bye burgers and ice cream van at their disposal. I am sure there were some very tired little people on Sunday night.

It was evident from the start of the day, this show was going to run like clockwork. Brian Crothers was there with his Catapulting Target board. Some fun there. Peter Cummins from Carlow and Chontelle Mc Meekin from Ballymena won the highest scores. There was also weight pulling which proved very popular with the show goers.

The brilliant organisation on the day resulted in the show schedule starting on time.

The first off was the childrens handling class. Myself and my good friend Nicky Robinson was given the privelege of judging this class. This group of young up and coming sports men and women were a credit to their parents. Although there was a first, second and third, these little people were all winners in my eyes. Breandan Coleman took every child in the class over to the ice cream van, and bought every child an ice cream. What a gentleman.

As the day progressed, it was raffle time and the excitement began to overflow. Some great prizes in the raffle including Hunting Plaques, wine to cigarette lighters.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges on the day, for carrying out their duties with such professionalism. You all judged with efficiency and integrity, and many thanks for that.

Billy Harpur and Bluebell were there with their cameras, clicking away at every opportunity. I also took a few photographs.

The racing, like everything else on the day went like clockwork. This would not been possible without the efficient organisation and lure handling of Jed Donagh, Mal Mc Fall, Mo Mc Dowell and their team of helpers. A job well done.

A special word of thanks to the Ruddell Family for the use of the field. Breandan donated £300, of funds from the show, and Aj Titterington donated £100 making a grand total of £400, being donated to Action Cancer in memory of the field owners father Nelson Ruddell. Hopefully this little gesture will help some individual nearing the end of life, suffering from this terrible desease, have a comfortable trip away from their suffering.

And Finally, Finally, the best is always left to last. What can I say that will gather the skills, fuelled spirit and determination of this young man Breandan Coleman to run a good show. Along with your brilliant band of helpers, you have again pulled together one of the best Working Dog shows I have been to this year, with super efficiency.

Breandan you are a true Country Sportsman, in a league of your own, and a lad that keeps your sport very close to your heart. Again you have run a top class show, and thank you for a most enjoyable and memorable day. Cant wait for more of the same next year.

AFTER HAVING A VERY ABUSIVE AND DISTRESSING PHONE CALL THIS MORNING AT 8.25am FROM SOMEONE WHO SENT ME AND ASKED ME TO PUT A WINNING PHOTOGRAPH UP ON MY SITE OF A VERY WORTHY WINNING PERSON AT CRUFTS, UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE SOME VERY UNSAVOURY COMMENTS MADE UNDER MY POST. THAT POST HAS NOW BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
AS I SAID BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, I LOVE COUNTRY SPORTS AND HAVE DEDICATED A BIG PART OF MY  LIFE FOR OVER 30 YEARS  DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO BETTER THE SPORT. WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, AND THANKFULLY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, IT PULLS ME DOWN TO THE DEPTHS. I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHS  AT OUR SHOWS AND DO MY WRITEUPS IN A PROPER MANNER AND WOULD NEVER CRITICIZE OR BRUTALISE THE HARD WORK THAT ALL OUR SHOW ORGANISERS PUT INTO GETTING THEIR SHOWS ON THE ROAD.
HAVIING SAID ALL OF THIS, I  MUST NOW  STRESS, ANY DEROGATORY OR HURTFUL REMARKS THAT IS MADE BY ANY INDIVIDUAL UNDER ANY OF MY POSTS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.  IF UNSAVOURY POSTS NEED TO BE MADE, PLEASE MAKE THEM ON YOUR OWN SITES AND NOT IN MY NAME, AS THE VERBAL ABUSE I HAVE TO TAKE IS NOT NICE, AND ESPECIALLY TO SOMEONE WHO ONLY  DOES GOOD FOR THE SPORT.
AS WE KNOW COUNTRY SPORTS IS BEING PULLED THROUGH THE MUCK AT THE MOMENT,  WE AS PEOPLE HAVE THE  POWER, SO FOR THE GOOD OF COUNTRY  SPORTS  TRY AND PULL TOGETHER  AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT, AND WE WILL WIN IN THE  END. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE TO POST YOUR COMMENTS ON MY SITE AS LONG AS THEY ARE STRAIGHT AND CLEAN AND FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT.

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE JIMMY SCOTT, A TOP DOGGIE MAN IN OUR COUNTRY SPORTS FRATERNITY, WHO LEFT THIS WORLD ON Christmas Day.   I Am Free Do not grieve for me now my friends and family, I am free. I am following the path God Laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.   I could not stay another day to show, to live , to hunt, to fish or play. I found my peace at close of day. Be not burdened with this time of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Do not lengthen it now with undue grief.   Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free.   From all in Country Sports Margaret Mc Stay
