Bmw 530D Touring Or Skoda Superb 2.0D Estate

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Anybody ever owned or currently owns either of these cars? I'm looking at 2012-2014 models of both and wondered if anyone had any experiences to share?

The Mr. Practical in me is pulling me towards the Skoda as you can get a lower mileage vehicle for my budget and it has good reviews but the Mr. Daft in me just loves the BMW and the 530d or even the 535d is supposed to be a lot fun to drive.

Cheers!

Depends what you want fella. Completely different motors really.

The skoda will be sensible, cheap enough to fix, good mpg but no good if you want something fast, which with you saying you like the BMW 535d I assume you do.

The 535 won't be as economical, regardless what book figures say, because you WILL drive it hard. I've driven the saloon with same engine and it really did pull well. Very impressive. It looks the part too.

Why don't you meet somewhere in the middle?

VW Passat Bluemotion DSG 2.0 TDI 170.

Nicer looking than the skoda, better mpg than the Beemer. Performance somewhere in the middle. Easily mapped to 200 bhp and will be nippy at that.

I've just seen that they do the superb with the same engine as the Passat that I reccomended above. So maybe that's answered your question.

Unless you can really justify spending the BMW money, go for the 170 superb and get it mapped to 200. You will get a much newer and lower mileage skoda for same money.

Sound advice thanks.

What about depreciation though? I see that the Skoda loses value a lot faster than the BMW, especially the touring version which holds value a lot better than the saloons. And what if I came down to the 520d would that even it out a little? People say the 520d is a little weak?

Haha you can see I am desperately trying to find an excuse to buy the BMW!

Have you considered a 3 series? My missus had got a 2011 320D touring and it is certainly not weak at all, with around 180 horses, nor too small. The 5 series seem a bit too big now for my liking, and I guess the 520 may be bit sluggish. In the 90s I had a 525 Touring and loved it, but I reckon the newer 3 series are nearly the same size as it was now..

I have considered it yes, in fact I considered the 320D touring, the Audi A4 Avant and the Skoda Octavia Estate originally and they just haven't got quite enough space. I have a growing family or kids and dogs to cope with over the next couple of years and all of those cars felt too small.

My concept here is buying the motor and keeping it for 5 years....by my reckoning the BMW will keep more value over the Skoda over that time, then again on the flip side the additional service and fuel costs for the BMW vs the Skoda could outweigh the benefits!

Argggh!!! I hate thinking practically, I just want a big fast car really!

Thanks to all for your comments
