pesky1972 5,244
I once worked with a bloke and this is not a friend of a friend who told somone I was there having lunch with him. We were in a group of lads eating a sandwich talking about all sorts and religion came up, some like this thread thought it was a pile of crap etc etc. Anyway after much convincing by a couple of the lads who knew the story , he told us about his own experience. When he was a young man (he was late fifties when I was talking to him) he was playing rugby and had an horrendous accident on the pitch stopped breathing and his heart stopped. He remembers total serenity, rising above himself and seeing people gathered round him working on his body, he said he felt really peaceful and kept slowly rising no fear just calm and at ease. Anyway they managed to resuscitate him he felt a huge pain and what he described was sucked back down into his body feeling terrible and was taken to hospital. He stayed there for several days Something really bothered him for some time trying to come to terms with what happened about this so called out of body experience, he read up loads and was surprised to find how common it was, but there was something specific, he remembered seeing when the incident was happening and he was riding above himself he saw something very strange, an old pram on top of the flat roof of the clubhouse, weeks later he got a ladder climbed up and was shocked to see the pram laying there as he had seen it, it couldn't be seen from the ground. He was very matter of fact he said to believe him or not but he didn't really mind he was happy he knew what he knew. I'm fascinated by these kind of stories.., and I can totally believe that what happened was all true. What I can't do is begin to explain how the guy knew about the pram on the roof. I don't see it as proof that what's in the Bible is true either.

I'm not saying he made it up, but the "something on the roof of something" is a very common story. Usually it's a pair of shoes on top of a cupboard, or a letter on top of a dresser that they couldn't see unless they were floating, If i was in that situation, i think i'd be watching to see what was happening to me rather than scouring roofs for various items. The Seeker 3,048
Yes of course i have no evidence to prove or disprove his story What i can say is he was a middle age man with a moderately well paid job so wasnt some young kid trying to impress, he also didn't make up loads of story's and use boastful comments like many of the Walts do, so when he told the story I believed what he said.
Francie 6,368
Fairplay seeker, could someone explain to me, if you beleive theres nothing after you die, but say to people that was clinically dead, an had an experience, that it was the brain releasing whatever, how the fook could the experience be down to brain relesing chemicals, how can you say this, when your dead theres nothing, so how do you understand the experience, cause your dead, an theres nothing after death, how can you register this if your dead, an theres nothing after death?
Mary 352
After dying the body still passes wind/farts for ages, nearly sure this is to do with the shut down of the organs and intestines and so releasing chemicals, surly the same with the brain?

People drown and stop breathing, their heart stops beating so technically dead I suppose, but can be brought back to life. The longer they are gone the worse the damage to the brain will be due to the depletion in oxygen, but the brain does 'live on' after the heart stops. If the brain is active in this period then I guess memory is likely also. Cerebral hipoxia can induce a euphoric sensation.., lets say, like floating peacefully towards a bright light..., and if you are brought back then I guess you may retain the memory of it. That doesn't explain the 'pram on the roof', but if someone's going to sell me heaven existing, I'm going to need more than the bright light stories.
shepp 2,285
Really ?.......do you think so? I'm not trying to convince you, I'm just saying how I see it. I'm not really into "degrees of shit".......if somethings shit, it's shit and we have to be man enough to admit it. So jumping a red light is as bad as being a pedophile? kanny 20,543
Here's something to think about... Energy never dies it only turns into a different form of energy ... Could it be the same for our life energy (spirit)?
Lenmcharristar 9,762
What part of the body is the soul in??? To me it's the brain, you can transplant any organ or limb and still feel here, but transplant a head and your consciousness soul goes with you and no feeling towards the rest that dies

It'll break down and provide nutrients for other life to grow, or we can burn it, but it's not a huge amount in energy terms.
