toxo 160
Went to my new farm permission yesterday and had a drive round with the owner to get acclimatised and find out where the access points are and footpaths/bridalways etc. When we were done I had a mooch round without much expectation as it was very hot and bright. The buggars could see me through the long grass/crops before I could see them. I managed to stalk one and then decided my best chance was to plot up and wait in a likely spot. After I shot one they didn't take that long to come back out because they weren't used to danger coming from where I was. I was told there were black ones around but I didn't expect to see one so soon. He came out with a couple of normal ones and a half grown baby black one as well. The Mk2 Rapid .22 found it's mark and down he went. I got one more and called it a day because the dogs had been on their own since 6.30am and it was now about 6.30pm. I would have liked to stay through the dark but that will have to wait til next time when Ill be back with the .22LR and the night vision. There's a chance of using one of the farms Mules which my legs will appreciate very much. You would have thought that the colours would be more mixed up but with nads like this I'm not surprised the black wins out. Beautiful smokey blue skin underneath. 1 Quote Link to post

toxo 160
They are U. I felt a little extra bad at shooting him. I suppose the fact that during the day they stick out like a sore thumb is more than made up for at night. Quote Link to post

toxo 160
I wonder if there's a market for black skins? Quote Link to post
toxo 160
No more brown babies for that buck. Not brown. I saw two jet black babies. That's why I said the size of the nuts on him might have something to do with the black gene overriding the brown. Can't be because he's only breeding with blacks because the handsome little sod must have those brown hunnies queuing around the block. 1 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I have 3 sites that I have seen Black rabbits on. Other rabbits don't seem to give a jot. Probably shot a handful over the years. Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Did you shoot them near a wood pile? Where did that saying come from "The n***** In The Woodpile"? The "nigger in the woodpile" phrase originated in the American deep south in the mid-19th century and was used to describe fugitive slaves who hid in piles of firewood as they fled north to Canada. It was used in 20th century Britain as a metaphor to describe a hidden fact or problem. Quote Link to post
