Gaz_1989 9,539
Ah right for the cycling challenge ... I thought you meant the hill running .......Nah mate for the bike ride. Fan dance will be a breeze compared to the cycling. Haha. Unless we do it in full military kit with a Bergen for a laugh. LolWhat sort of miles are you doing in training ?? I did a few shorter time trails and found on longer runs, I had much more stamina and better recovery as I was not flat out , going he'll for leather.. I can do average speed of 20 miles an hour on 10/12 miler and found on longer 50 milers could do 16/17 when I was going well and not pushing overly hard.. Once I got some decent wheels on my bike and areo bars that made a difference.. Even coasting and dropping to the bars,my speed went up by 1 mpg. . I'm averaging similar to you mate 17-18 mph over 50 miles. I'm doing 50 miles in just under 3 hours. That's mostly road and a few country trails etc. Using a verenti hybrid bike not an out and out racer. My biggest problem now is getting the miles under my belt. There's only so many hours in a day as you know and to "nip out" for a 6-8 hour bike ride is difficult with finding time for my missus, little girl, dogs and ferrets, jobs about the house and working 6-7 days a week. Plus I'm training for a half marathon in October and a few 10km races between now and then, and boxing 3 days a week. Something has gotta give. Lol Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
I reckon.. With what you've got under you belt taking that step up for the bigger runs won't be to much of a chore.. Doing what your doing on a hybrid is good going.. With better kit you'd see a significant improvement .. I went from hybrid to road bike and made a huge difference.. When I done the time trails I always came last lol but was still improving and loosing weight.. Most were averaging 27 or near 30 mph or decent runs.. Doing leg routines in the gym made good difference.. Having more power on the short hills and pushing a big cog on the flat.. Have you been on a watt bike ?? That can improve your style & adds different dynamic to training.. I got the turbo trainer in the house and done a few HTT programmes off you tube which was better than just ploughing away on the trainer and the footage was quite entertaining. Have you loSt a bit of weight ?? Quote Link to post
