Mickey Finn 3,005
What exactly is her diet made up of at the moment ..... I am feeding mostly muskrat, with an occasional meal of beef, and a few junks of chicken fat or skin added every now and then. I feed the whole muskrat, meat, bone, liver, kidneys, etc. minus the pelt, stomach, and intestines. Muskrat meat is a rich red meat that has a good amount of fat, and lots of protein. Muskrats are a clean and mostly vegetarian, much more like a rabbit than an actual rat. I freeze it for over a month to kill of any potential parasites, just to be safe. This is the nutritional content of raw muskrat meat... http://www.nutritionvalue.org/Game_meat,_raw,_muskrat_nutritional_value.html An awful lot of work there. lol. Minkenery, I like the looks of your pup and her parents expecially the male. I think in my very limited Lurcher experience that her interest in scent may fade. It's mostly thick here in Michigan and scent is important. I was able to run mine with a gun dog that was very interested in catching raccoons, possums and ground hogs. The Lurcher learned from watching that this was the way to catch these things. The weird part is it never seems to pick up on cotton tail scent only sights them. But if you have a scent orientated dog like a cur or gun dog this might be a good way to orientate her to hunting things up by scent. Take that for what it's worth. Good luck with her and have fun. p.s. Socks hates Americans..... but some would argue he knows a thing or two. I don't hate Americans I actually have family that live in Florida ....... They're living in a tropical paradise and your stuck in the god forsaken old world. You hate them for it admit it! 1 Quote Link to post

morton 5,368
Cracking post ... Personally I would want my pup carrying a bit more weight ...... She's been wormed and gets fed raw twice a day, morning and night, and has an unlimited access to high quality kibble through out the day and night. Trust me, she's as fat as she can get at this stage. That's just how she's built. I guarantee you I feed her just as good or better than you feed your dogs. Socks has an habit of pointing out a skinny sapling, good post mucker and i concur with socks,we must put the dishes closer to the pups mouth over here. 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
Cracking post ... Personally I would want my pup carrying a bit more weight ...... Also, my dog perfectly fits the description of a dog at an ideal body weight..... "How do you know if your dog is too fat or thin? You should be able to easily feel your dog's ribs and even see the outline of the last few floating ribs at the end of the ribcage that attaches to the vertebrae of the spine closest to the hips. You should not be able to see ALL the ribs, or the hip bones, or the vertebrae of the spine, just the outline of the last few floating ribs. If you stand above your dog, he should have a definite waist between his hips and ribcage. Remember that dogs are built differently from each other, so some may have a naturally stocky body that will not give you a waist no matter what you do." All pups should look stocky and rounded, when they grow away from their puppy body then they start to grow into their breeding and breeding shape, until then they are fat, clumsy, greedy pups and are many months away from rib carriage, floating or sunk, vertebrae of the spine or being outlined.Lurcher pups resemble anything but their breeding,or should, appearance wise. 1 Quote Link to post
