South hams hunter 8,924
Im not a fan of socks or skycat tbh but what you wrote whin is just your normal typical drivel! They have done nothing but given the lad good advice. Would you allow a pup to graze allday on 'kibble'? Quote Link to post
Mickey Finn 3,014
What exactly is her diet made up of at the moment ..... I am feeding mostly muskrat, with an occasional meal of beef, and a few junks of chicken fat or skin added every now and then. I feed the whole muskrat, meat, bone, liver, kidneys, etc. minus the pelt, stomach, and intestines. Muskrat meat is a rich red meat that has a good amount of fat, and lots of protein. Muskrats are a clean and mostly vegetarian, much more like a rabbit than an actual rat. I freeze it for over a month to kill of any potential parasites, just to be safe. This is the nutritional content of raw muskrat meat... http://www.nutritionvalue.org/Game_meat,_raw,_muskrat_nutritional_value.html An awful lot of work there. lol. Minkenery, I like the looks of your pup and her parents expecially the male. I think in my very limited Lurcher experience that her interest in scent may fade. It's mostly thick here in Michigan and scent is important. I was able to run mine with a gun dog that was very interested in catching raccoons, possums and ground hogs. The Lurcher learned from watching that this was the way to catch these things. The weird part is it never seems to pick up on cotton tail scent only sights them. But if you have a scent orientated dog like a cur or gun dog this might be a good way to orientate her to hunting things up by scent. Take that for what it's worth. Good luck with her and have fun. p.s. Socks hates Americans..... but some would argue he knows a thing or two. Edited June 4, 2016 by Mickey Finn Quote Link to post
