Recommended Posts

Commemoration to mark the centenary of the Battle of Jutland are taking place today and tomorrow.

Please take a moment to remember the 6,000+ British (almost 9,000 men of both fleets), who lost their live in the pivotal naval battle of WW1.

Must confess that when I think of WWI I usually only think of the land battle in the trenches and the huge losses of life at the likes of the Somme.

I usually associate sea & air battles more with the second war. Forget the huge losses the naval & merchant fleets suffered. Jutland must have been a horrendous event and a terrible way to go.

Wars have killed so many over the years but WW1 was generally recognised as the first war of mechanised mass slaughter.

Incredibly bravery in the face of almost certain death for so many.

Why on earth can't mankind learn to live together peacefully?

Well said, at school in the Late Sixty's and early Seventy's it was part and parcel of all our history lessons then. I just wonder how many know of Jack Cornwell and as stated each and every one of all those other brave blameless on both sides.
