gnasher16 30,494
Talking of humour.....did anyone clock the Hodgson press conference when Martin Glen said " i don't know much about football but...........bla bla bla ".......this is one of the most powerful men in English football responsible for selecting our next national team manager !!!.......unbelievable........as if Hodgson wasnt slippery enough trying to do a quick dash after the final whistle with a " im outta here " mentality we then have to suffer the indignity of a fish finger marketer,a few estate agents,a female Jamaican barrister and Roland Rats inventor telling us how they will be giving the manager of our future national squads selection their full attention.............and we wonder why we cant get it right. WILF 47,791
I can't think of a finer person than a Jamaican barrister to run a national football team ! Question, who thinks there would be mileage in selecting players from lower devisions ?.........personally I could really get behind a group of lads who had maybe missed the big time and gone through the ranks......I think them lads would relish a chance to shine. I always say, I can only love a dog that makes you love it......I can't live a dog just because it's my dog.
WILF 47,791
Max, FAs around the world are made up totally of yes men.....it's the nature of the beast. FAs don't make or break teams, players and managers do that all on their own.
WILF 47,791
They won't ask Harry, but if they do.......I hope he tells them to shove it up their arse.
NEWKID 27,636
Lads, It's been a few days now but I still can't believe how poor we were all over the pitch, I mean these lads are good players, maybe not world beaters, but good players. But all of them looks like they'd never played before, and the mire it went on the worse it got. Touch, passing, running, competing, everything looked hard work, to the point of awful. But why? The manager was shocking, why play players who are physically f****d? Kane, sterling, and Wilshere were no way near the pace. Rooney had a shocker, I didn't see that coming and thought his quality would show, I was wrong but everyone could see by halftime it wasn't working.. But I've never seen so many players have a shocker in the same game. How do we go forward.? Whos the right man for the job? IMO there are some real prospects in this squad, but they had no shape, system, organisation it was to f**k.
NEWKID 27,636
the chance was missed with Redknapp, unfortunately, I really believe he would have got a bit more out of this young group

Your right they wont ask him....but if they did i know for 100% he would tell them to get f****d......and rightly so.......i must admit i think Max is right whether you want to call them yes men im not sure......i would call them society darlings.........people who will put a happy healthy light on football in our society........and it go,s right through our game look at the way football constantly has to " represent " controversial issues in society.......John Terry as an example.......like him or loathe him he is the best central defender England has produced in 50 years........but he called a black man a nasty name and slipped into his mates wife so we cant have people like that playing for our country !........we,ll have that useless black poofter Smalling instead ! Harry Redknapp......got himself wrapped up in a bit of mischief nothing to do with football so we,ll give him a swerve even though he was the right man.......the nonsense with Suarez " racism "charges......our game is held hostage by these suits who run the game according to what is deemed important areas of society.....let these people dish out their silly fa bans, fines and charges in the premier league but let football people run our national football team. Wales1234 5,559
I think pretty much the opposite actually lads, I think as individuals they are actually as good as they think they are.....in fact they can be better. However, they need to shown and maybe lower league players need to be encouraged through the selection process that "hype" is not enough.......you need something more, then IMHO the beliefe will start to come.......and once you have beliefe and a war like mentality then you will see things happen........you will see fans get behind you win or loose, you will see people wanting to be part of the set up. You may not be getting any 4-0 against Germany once in a blue moon but you will start to dig out odd little results, you will be a team that people fear. It's a whole team thing, it's a coach thing....... Another thing is, I don't think modern rules and refereeing help the game at all......its become too netball for my liking, a player like Sterling would not have lasted 10 minutes 20 years ago but now he gets away with being a mediocre physical specimen when what you need is hard, fit, strong dudes.......dudes who represent everything about contact sport. and yet , regards physical size/power , one of the top players of his generation was (george Best) and he was only slight built 5ft 10 in 145lb not a big bloke , when compared Ronaldo who 6ft 2 in 13 1/2 st , but old best could tackle , hold the ball up, etc . ok differnt game back then (slower ) but best still had quality, strength about him fact . Coming from someone who plays rugby trust me height and weight doesn't come into it on the field ! My centre partner is 5.7 and about 13st and is the strong b*****d iv ever set foot on the field with ! Mong strong I call it there's a few lads I know that are not big boys or even go to the gym a lot just naturally strong blokes
WILF 47,791
Thiery Henry played at around 13.5 to 14 stone, he was a unit on the pitch......big, powerful and strong.......that is exactly how a player should be. Dunga, Dechamps, Scholes......not massive tall lads but strong and solid That Sterling must be about 9 stone wet through.......he isn't up to it IMHO
NEWKID 27,636
I played centre midfield with a lad who was 17 when we first played together, he was let go by City and was 5ft 6 I'd say and maybe 10st, was one of the hardest little b*****ds I've seen on a pitch, but a good player too, won a fair bit in the air (considering). But he would go in and win a ball, could bounce off players and had ythat real desire, really good player, I played with him for 5 or 6 years in the end. Size aint what it's about, a bit of heart will get you a long way, sterling is scared of contact, but this tournament he's been scared to play, with his pace he should just knock it and run, but he aint brave enough. Henry is a good example of bravery, he would run at you, knock it past you and burn that takes guts, you're either gonna get whacked at full flight or f**k up... Sterling ran a bit stopped, checked back every time, easy to defend that, every defender hates pace.
philip_70 1
Weak as piss Sterling A waste of time taking him. sterling played superb in the qualifications, nothing like a scapegoat.wish he was a scot .biggest talent in England as far as I'm concerned.
gnasher16 30,494
I dont think body type has anything to do with it these lads are all highly tuned athletes these days performing at very low bodyweight as they are surrounded by dieticians sports scientists etc......players like Bale/Ronaldo yes are tremendous natural athletes but thats just a speed/acceleration thing for the most part players are physically quite similar its quite obvious to me these England players suffer some kind of mental block when they pull an England shirt on.......why that is we can guess at all day long but i dont think theres any doubt that players like Ali/Kane who performed fantastically all year for their club for some reason froze and didnt perform for England and its been that way for a while now.
