WILF 46,687
I think pretty much the opposite actually lads, I think as individuals they are actually as good as they think they are.....in fact they can be better. However, they need to shown and maybe lower league players need to be encouraged through the selection process that "hype" is not enough.......you need something more, then IMHO the beliefe will start to come.......and once you have beliefe and a war like mentality then you will see things happen........you will see fans get behind you win or loose, you will see people wanting to be part of the set up. You may not be getting any 4-0 against Germany once in a blue moon but you will start to dig out odd little results, you will be a team that people fear. It's a whole team thing, it's a coach thing....... Another thing is, I don't think modern rules and refereeing help the game at all......its become too netball for my liking, a player like Sterling would not have lasted 10 minutes 20 years ago but now he gets away with being a mediocre physical specimen when what you need is hard, fit, strong dudes.......dudes who represent everything about contact sport. You don't have to be built like a brick shit house to be strong on a football pitch. Iniesta, messi, payet, go back to players like Zola.. It's a combination of balance and positioning your body correctly, they can put there body between the defender and ball and roll a tackle or not afraid to get fouled. Players like sterling haven't got the technique to do that, or the bravery

Lab 10,979
The biggest problem for me was your manager. Simply not got a clue. There's very little time to form partnerships at international level and you need to be strong and go with who is in form when the tournament starts. Atleast then if it all goes tits up you can say "well I played my best players". For me he didn't and he struggled to work out your best formation and who should be in it.

Nicepix 5,650
I think that England have almost a great team. They are four players short, three if you swap Hart for Butland when he's fit. The main reason they lost was that Hodgson's tactics are at fault. England have four brilliant attacking full backs to choose from, but the price they pay for this is making attackers back track to defend. That stifles their chance of counter attacking quickly. So they end up trying to walk the ball into the goal instead of playing decisive through balls because by the time the forwards have got back in position all the opposition defenders are also back. Hodgson is too careful, too negative, too LVG-ish. This showed in his squad choice and team choice for each match. Sterling, Sturridge maybe deserve a chance early on, but they never fulfilled their promise. Rooney should never have been in the squad and Wilshire hadn't enough recent matches to judge his form. Kane and Vardy were denied the through balls that they thrive on in club football. For me Rooney should gracefully retire from international football. He hasn't been worth his place for the last two years and he ain't going to get any better. We need a new start, new tactics that reflect the way the players operate at club level. Sterling might come good again, but Sturridge is too much of a risk. Wilshire should prove himself at club level before being trusted to run the midfield for his country. And Hart should be quietly dropped.

Jamie m 668
How someone so embarrassing at a World Cup can then get a four year contract is beyond me .
green lurchers 16,621
if rooney isn't good enough to play in his best position why is he in the team ? that is a fundamental flaw from the off and just piled pressure on other players , there are some good players in that team but to build a team round a playmaker that isn't a play maker is where it all went wrong
