Kal 17
A few people on here have mentioned using Wilko Hex nuts as ammo. I'd always thought they'd be inaccurate - however I've been giving them a go recently and am so far very impressed. I'm inclined to say they are more accurate than BB's. Certainly I'm finding them more accurate than my usual 9.5mm steel, used for general plinking; I even think they are harder hitting. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?have used various nuts over the years and have been quite happy with them, as I,m a tatter they are usually all over the bed of my truck, so a free and easy source of ammo, I now make my own 12mm lead balls, but would,nt hesitate to use nuts again I even know a few that fill the centre hole with lead to give them more weight and therefore more whack, anything that is a uniform shape seems to fly pretty true from a catty, I know a lot of people are now using lead cubes and swear by them just like lead beans none of them look like they should fly true but they seem to work fine and some even prefer them to round balls, at the end of the day almost anything is better than rocks, but rocks have probably been responsible for more catty kills than anything else, go for it
Kal 17
I like the idea of filling them with lead; that's quite easy and in-expensive to do. I'm very happy with the hex nuts at 8 - 12 yard shooting (plinking) and need to put them to the test at longer ranges.I haven't heard of lead cubes being used but will look into that! jonnie bravo 572
They are awesome plinkers. Fill em with lead and you get some seriously hard hitting ammo
Kal 17
Will definitely be giving it a go and if they shoot well at 20 - 25 yards will stop using BB's. Much cheaper to fill up at Wilkos!

The lead cubes are being made in silicone ice cube trays, they are 10mm cubes and you get 160 cubes in one sheet, the moulds are less than £2 on eBay it's a very fast and easy way of turning out ammo and know the silicone does not melt even though your brain tells you it will
Neal 1,873
I prefer them to bbs. One odd benefit is that, because they sit flat between your thumb and forefinger in the pouch, they're less likely to fall out while walking along waiting for a shot.
Kal 17
I hadn't thought of that! Lead cubes - odd but worth a look!
barrywhite 282
years ago i used i think 1 inch maybe smaller square mild steel bar . cut the bar into cubes and shot that . the cutting power of this ammo is amazing put one cube straight through a street piegon like putting an air gun pellet through a fag packet . cattykid123 122
What's the point in buying hex nuts and filling them with lead you mase well buy a mould for £20 and only get lead which is cheaper in the long run and I use lead beans and 9.5 MM steel in fact I was out today with bb's and killed 4 bunnys all from 10 yards to 35 yards and killed them plus 1000 steel ball bearings are only £13 on eBay
Kal 17
I'm not sure there is a need to fill them with lead, but would imagine it's very simple to do (melt and pour just enough to fill the hole). I've got a load of lead left over by some builders - so wouldn't cost anything..but was planning on making fishing weights with it. My point was that I've found hex nuts to be more accurate than the 9 and 10mm steel bb's...I also think they hit harder than the 9mm. £13 for 1000 bb's is good - I was buying mine direct from a manufacturer for £20..But I think the equivalent in hex nuts would cost around £8, if you use the wilko bags!
cattykid123 122
Yes but you only get 2 big bags out of the tray with the m/8 nuts in
Kal 17
Excellent point - I've not bought more than 1 bag so far! I have 4 stores within a 20 minute journey (either car or on foot - depending on location!)...so if I wanted more it is possible. They'd probably wonder why they are selling so many, without selling the equivalent in bolts!
